Division I coaches will tell you the combination of size and speed is what they covet in a recruit.
So it should come as no surprise that Pat LeMoine will be taking his talents to the University of Virginia after two more varsity seasons at Webster Thomas High School, outside Rochester. LeMoine’s commitment was reported this afternoon at Twitter.com/joe_lombardi.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound midfielder runs the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds.
LeMoine, who also plays football, is also a physical player who excels in transition, as shown on his highlight reel.
In addition, he carries a 3.8 grade-point average.
Webster Thomas finished 16-3 this past season.
He becomes the second Webster Thomas sophomore middie to verbally commit to a D-I program, joining Kevin Hill, who is headed to Penn State.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Pat on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
My main focus was a great academic school and Virginia offers that along with their lacrosse program that possesses great tradition. After visiting and seeing everything the school had to offer, I knew it was the place for me.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Fairfield, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Cornell, Georgetown and Boston University. I visited Fairfield, Syracuse and Boston University.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are my speed and transition game and getting my hands free easily. I would say my style of play is fast-paced and explosive.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I would like to improve my all-around shot.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
Growing up, I played football, soccer and basketball. It wasn’t until the summer before seventh grade when I decided to play lacrosse.
A couple of my buddies had been playing for a while and a few more of us decided to start all about the same time. I fell in love with it right away.
What travel team did you play on last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Sweetlax lacrosse club and participated in the Big 4 showcase and Uplax with them. I also played in the Nike Upstate Risings tournament last summer.
