It’s become one of the most anticipated and meaningful rivalry games in the tristate.
It’s the Charlie Murphy Cup game between Lakeland/Panas and Yorktown.
Today marks the 24th annual installment of the game, which honors the late co-founder of the YHS program.
The first two Murphy Cup games were both decided by one goal, including a 9-8 Yorktown win in 1991. You can watch video highlights of that contest here. For the all-time series history, click here.
Today’s game will be shown live on MSGVarsity.com at 4 p.m. on what is also a busy day in both college and professional lacrosse.
Another rivalry is renewed at Bethpage High School as Darien and St. Anthony’s meet in a CT/NY matchup of defending state champions that will be shown live at 2 p.m. on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum) and MSGVarsity.com. At halftime, Mike Quick and Joe Lombardi will be taking a look at the biggest success stories in tristate lax so far this season. A replay of the game will air tonight at 7 on MSG Varsity (Channel 14), preceding the taped replay of the April 30 Ridgefield-Yorktown game at 9:30 p.m.

Power Rankings Section 1
1. Yorktown – my guess awaiting Nisky
2. Bronxville – looking ahead class “C” SWR
3. John Jay – Somers winner plays Town
4. Somers – see above
The rest any order:
Mahopac
Mamaroneck
Rye
Arlington
Hen Hud
Brewster
Watch list- North Salem, North Rockland and Pleasantville
1-3 fine
4/5 Somers/Mahopac-tie
6 Rye
The rest but got to include Pville. I was wrong bout Mamo. Big disappointment so far.
Slacrosse after the top 4 you have to include Somers they have played everyone and they beat Jay crushed Rye. I do not think any one other then Jay and Town can beat Somers in B. Mahopac they are down L/P way down , Mamo disappointing. Arlington not convinced. Slax one question why is Bronxville playing Mamo twice this week??? One college not Jojo Marasco should win Terwarton award just my vote.
Yes you’re probably right about Somers. But in this crazy season who knows. Sure Somers would be favored agian vs Rye but I’ think the game will be much tighter. Bville only playing Mamo once this week.
John Jay held New Canaan to 3 goals over 3 quarters and lost. It must sting to put up that type of defensive effort against a good team like NC and lose. Hopefully this makes them stronger in the playoffs.
The problem is they let a team go up 7-2 on them after 1 ! What was going on ?! Mahopac, Iona Prep Bronxville are next. Pac is the only game I think we’d be favored in. They need to get in the poised mind set to upset these teams and be ready to play. Don’t want to back into the sectionals.
Westrock
Bville plays mamaroneck just Monday. Then finish off with white plains and John jay sat night. I think the JJ/bville will be a very good game to watch.
Yes JJ defense took too long to figure out New Caanan or just didn’t show up in first Qtr. Just like the 3.5 minutes at end of first Qtr against Somers 4 goals given up. One of the real issues is the man down defense, All 4 on Manhasets goals and a few Sat night, too many bad penalties, the 10th Goal at NC was an open netter. I believe JJ had more shots on goal, a few pipes and a few at the goalies head and stick. They need to play solid defense for 4 qtrs to win this week and to prepare for playoffs. The offense you knew would be a work in progress all season and with Beck out would take longer but I’m surprised the way the defense is giving up goals early, doesn’t help when offense turn ball over early but still, it is the strenght of this Coaching unit.
