“Seven in ’11” was the Darien Blue Wave’s rallying cry in 2011.
As in, a seventh straight Connecticut state title in 2011.
But that bid was denied by Wilton as the Warriors downed the Blue Wave in the semifinals before going on to win the championship.
It was the latest plot twist in one of the biggest rivalries in Connecticut.
Tonight, the teams will renew that rivalry in a 7 p.m. game at Wilton’s Fujitani’s Field.
Also on the FCIAC slate today, Ridgefield plays at Stamford at 4 p.m. and Fairfield Ludlowe, which played Darien to a 7-4 game in the teams’ opener, hosts Greenwich at 7 p.m.
CHSAA Division AA finalists Fordham Prep and defending champion Iona Prep play their first meeting of the season today at 4:30 p.m. at Iona Prep.
Yorktown will prepare for its Saturday showdown against fellow two-time New York state semifinalist Bronxville when it visits 2012 Class C sectional finalist Hen Hud on the new turf field at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry at 5 p.m.
Also in Section 1, longtime rivals Horace Greeley and Fox Lane meet at 4:15 p.m. at Fox Lane. Put Valley plays at John F. Kennedy Catholic at 4:30 p.m. John Jay visits Brewster and Rye hosts Pleasantville at 5 p.m. Arlington hosts Mahopac at 5:15 p.m. Byram Hills visits Harrison at 6 p.m. Somers visits Lakeland/Panas at 7 p.m. at Walter Panas High School.
The Long Island slate includes a 4:30 p.m. game between Massapequa and host Farmingdale.
In its final game before facing Chaminade on Saturday, Manhasset hosts North Shore at 5 p.m.
In Suffolk, West Islip looks to bounce back from its loss earlier this week to Smithtown East, when it plays at Walt Whitman at 4:45 p.m.
In an intriguing prep battle, Hill Academy of Ontario, Canada, plays at Fairfield Prep (Conn.).
The upstate New York schedule is headline by a game between Fayetteville-Manlius and Cicero-North Syracuse.
