Four-time defending CHSAA Division AAA champion St. Anthony’s got its season started yesterday by beating Kellenberg Memorial 12-5.

Now it’s Chaminade’s turn.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16If you’re just tuning in, Chaminade is ranked No. 2 in the Under Armour/InsideLacrosse.com National Rankings.

But Chaminade has lost to St. A’s four straight years in the CHSAA title game.

So while winning the championship is the Flyers’ main goal this year, performing well in tests against public school Long Island powers is another.

Chaminade faces West Islip in a March 30 mega matchup.

And today, the Flyers host 2012 Nassau County Class A finalist Massapequa.

While most Long Island teams have started their seasons, the rest of the tristate is still in the scrimmage stage.

And today, a few preseason matchups — all set for 4:30 p.m. — take center stage.

Defending Connecticut Class M state champ Darien plays at Section 1 Class B finalist John Jay, two-time New York Class B state semifinalist Yorktown visits defending CHSAA Division AA champion Iona Prep (this is a change of venue), two-time New York Class B state semifinalist Bronxville visits Suffolk County Class A power Smithtown West at 4:30 p.m.

Also of note, defending New York Class A state champ West Islip hosts Huntington for a 4 p.m. scrimmage and John F. Kennedy Catholic of Section 1, which announced earlier this week it will be joining the CHSAA next school year, hosts CHSAA member Archbishop Stepinac in a 4 p.m. scrimmage.

All interesting match ups. Keeping in mind that these are scrimmages and in addition to viewing where their respective teams are, some coaches are still evaluating individual players. So it in no way determines if these teams where to meet in a game situation in April, if in fact these results would be accurate. That being said, most teams go with what they believe to be their starting line up for at least the first quarter or whatever time periods the two teams agree on and they go pretty hard. Refs are ironing out some kinks as well.

Iona Prep vs. Town -Iona Prep beat JJ last season and some posters were saying that they could play with anyone in section 1, so let us know.

    Jay vs. Darien- ? Jay’s D ? Darien’s O ?

Bronxville vs. Smithtown West – I would guess Smithtown West would have the upper hand here, but what do I know really ?

  3. sgt hulka says:

Can anybody comment on the Darien/JJ scrimmage?

    • slacrosse says:

Overall thought pretty even scrimmage ( D won by 3). Cant read too much in as lots of substitution but I was quite impressed with the good form J showed on vorh O ( Beck did not play) and D at such an early point in the season against a good Darien team ( thought #6 attack particularly impressive).

  4. Been There says:

I agree, slacrosse. Good run for both teams. BTW JJ was also minus one of their top middies Bowen Clymer for the scrimmage.

  5. slacrosse says:

Anyone see the Town or Bville scrimmages?

  6. Justlaxin says:

    Town won by a lot.

  7. just sayin says:

    Town won 18-8

  8. JJ says:

Beck has had shoulder problems but is back and just waiting to get fully cleared, clymer needed that 1 last practice and Duffy is a little banged up but all should be full strength by the Town game, or at least we all hope!!

  9. This is a topic which is clos to my heart… Best wishes!
