Defending FCIAC boys lacrosse champion New Canaan is in search of a new coach.
Alex Whitten told his team on Wednesday that he will be leaving the area to become head coach at Western Albermarle High School in Crozet, Va.
Whitten, who is the son of legendary former Wilton coach Guy Whitten, had guided the Rams for the last five years. Alex Whitten was a standout at Wilton before playing collegiately at Duke.

US Lacrosse: Recruiting changes needed
US Lacrosse, the sport’s national governing body, has gone public with its desire for changes to be made in recruiting regulations, particularly in the accelerated timing of verbal commitments, which now often come in a student-athlete’s sophomore year of high school.
“The current landscape of recruiting events and club programs — some of which operate throughout the calendar year — has encouraged an increasing number of young student-athletes to forgo a well-rounded high school experience based on unrealistic expectations and misperceptions about playing college lacrosse,” US Lacrosse’s Board of Directors said in a statement.
