The rumors began even before Nicky Galasso confirmed he had requested a release from the University of North Carolina.

Now, just over a week after that announcement has come another.

The all-time leading leading scorer in Long Island high school lacrosse history is indeed headed to Syracuse.

Galasso, the former West Islip attackman who led the Lions to four state titles, will have two years of eligibility, beginning with the 2013 season.

After being named ACC rookie of the year in 2011, Galasso was a third-team All-America this past season.

Galasso ended his WI career with a 13-5 win over Fairport in the 2010 New York State Class A title game at Stony Brook University ([photo above shows Galasso being interviewed after that game). In that contest, Galasso broke former Elmont star Jim Zaffuto’s record for most career points by a Long Island player of 498.

Interesting team to watch… JoJo … Daniello (transfer from Hop)… Nicky (transfer from UNC) … All former stars from downstate NY
