It was a unique opportunity for a large group of standouts from the regions to show their skills in front of college coaches — and win a national championship in the process.
The Long Island Express did just that.
And they did it in style.
The second-seeded Express downed the top-seeded Fellowship of Christian Athletes team 7-4 today in the U-15 national championship game in Buena Vista, Fla.
Attackman Tyler Dunn (three goals) of Manhasset and midfielder Joe Licciardi (two goals) of Cold Spring Harbor ignited the Express offense.
Joining Dunn and Licciardi on the All-Tournament team were midfielder John Daniggelis of Smithtown East, defenseman Jack Goettelmann of North Shore and goalies Joe McGuigan of St. Anthony’s and Gregg Meyers of Syosset.
Henry Grass of Bronxville scored twice for FCA and made the All-Tournament team.
