Before we get to today’s games, a quick word about what was a relatively light day for games yesterday.
But there was a big story.
In a battle of upstart varsity programs, Irvington pulled out an 11-10 Senior Day win over neighboring Route 9 rival Dobbs Ferry. Dobbs Ferry, which started the season 11-0, has now lost two of its last three, with the other setback coming against Pelham.
Irvington won it on a goal by Sam Winton with three seconds remaining. Winton, who scored the last three goals of the game, finished with four goals. The Bulldogs also successfully pulled off a hidden-ball trick.
Be sure to check out highlights from MSG Varsity.
Front and center today, Chaminade plays at St. Anthony’s in Round 2 of their best-of-three series. Chaminade held on for 6-5 win over the Friars on April 5 after jumping out to a 5-1 lead.
The teams are locked in to a third meeting for the CHSAA Class AAA title.
It will be Senior Night at Yorktown as the Huskers host a Clarkstown South team that has been playing well, led by goalie Kris Alleyne, attackman Joe Buzzetti and midfielder Thomas Lent. Game-time is 7 p.m. at Charlie Murphy Field.
Yorktown is currently ranked No. 15 nationally in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national power rankings, which were released yesterday.
In those rankings, the Huskers are No. 2 in Hudson Valley/Connecticut, with Salisbury ahead of Yorktown at No. 2 and Darien, which fell to the Huskers for its only loss, checking in behind Yorktown at No. 17.
Also of note, Suffern takes on Lakeland/Panas in a 5 p.m. game at Lakeland High School. LP took a pair of close decisions last season vs. the Mounties, including in the Class A sectional semis.
In other Section 1 games, Rye visits at Byram Hills, Put Valley hosts Brewster, Horace Greeley hosts Pleasantville, Put Valley hosts Brewster and North Salem plays at Kennedy Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Hen Hud visits North Rockland at 4:15 p.m. Rivals Wappingers and Arlington play at Arlington at 5:15 p.m.
Defending Connecticut Class L state champ Ridgefield, coming off its first FCIAC loss of the season (14-11 to Darien), hopes to bounce back, but will have to beat a red-hot New Canaan team to do so. The Rams, who are hosting the Tigers, have won seven straight. Game-time is 7 p.m. at Dunning Stadium.
Monroe-Woodbury takes on Minisink Valley in a 4 p.m. Section 9 marquee matchup at Torne Valley.
Smithtown West, one of the nation’s most potent offensive teams, visits Northport in a 4:45 p.m. game that should be a high-scoring affair.
At 4 p.m., West Islip visits Connetquot in another Suffolk clash.
The 11-game Nassau slate is highlighted by a 4:30 p.m. between hosts Hicksville and defending Class A state champ Farmingdale.

Smithtown West now leads 4-2 after one.

Nade leads St A’s 4-1 after 1
Chaminade leads 7-4 at the half.
Nade leading 8-5 in the 4th
11-8 Nade. Round 3 will be the one that counts once again.
If I’d lost 4 out of 5 to my biggest rival I’d be downplaying those results too. I guess those regular season games are like scrimmages, when you come up short. For the rest of us though, regular season games count. Doesn’t sound like you’re prepared to handle Yorktown either.
BH 4-1 over Rye
Congrats to BH. I’ve missed a few of Rye’s last few games but 1 goal and very few SOG–a terrible effort.
Suffern scores 1:38 of the 3rd & at 3:58 4-3 LP ties it 5:26 left in 3rd 4-4 suffern’s Redgate gets a Hat trick 5-4 thru 3. Suffern’s doing this w/o the sharp bros both start. One’s on attack & is their 2nd leading scorer the other brother’s a starting midfielder. Nice Job Mounties! They make it 6-4 30secs into 4th emo suffern 1:55 left another emo they’re gonna win this game. 51secs left TO suffern emo LP scores 6-5 14secs TO 6.5secs left LP’s ball
6-5 final Suffern if you were wondering. LP got off a weak shot that was saved at the end. Suffern has a Very Good Chance to Win Sect.1 A title. They are better than last year & with the Sharp Boys back Watch Out!
Congrats to Suff but looking at both teams’ sched and records , I’ll go with LP by a comfortable margin to win Class A.
You both will be wrong. Pac will beat both of them for another sectional title. Neither team will be able to stop Hynes and Berardis. Sloppy game vs LP, but second time will be for the marbles.
I’m glad slacrosse & Dpac are sure Suffern’s not going to win the section. They’ve got the goalie & stud attackman to do it & again they beat LP at LP without two starters. We’ll see. The Mounties are better then you guys think.
New Canaan wins its eighth straight by defeating Ridgefield 10-5.
So Wilton beat New Canaan who beat Ridgefield who beat Wilton. Interesting to see how the coaches will seed the FCIACs at 2, 3 and 4. Not to mention capable teams like Greenwich, Staples, Ludlowe and Mc Mahon, if healthy. Going to be another fun tournament!
Sheesh, an interesting vote indeed. Personally, I’d like to see an NC/Darien rematch. What round that takes place in FCIACs or States….Commissioner Selig?
Wow. Surprising result to me. Uh oh–I hope not but I’m feeling we could be talking BIG revenge for last season’s loss to Rye when they meet on Tuesday.

is anyone playing Defense in the Yorktown game?
There’s been plenty of bone crushing open field hits. The game is stopped 4:15 of the 4th with a kid down. It’s been a wide open game. Not JJ/Ridgefield stall ball. Trust me the game is heading this way. 4&5min possesions are going the way of the DoDo Bird
Very Funny Green/White! 18-11 1:12 4th. Sec1 & Gr/Wh town’s playing lots of new kids from the start… Correct?
19-11 Town Marone
Town 19-12 Final
Shoutout to my boy Kevin McCarthy, Longpole Defender, netting his first ever varsity goal on senior night in front of all of his friends and family. Well deserved goal, kid works harder then anyone i know.
Congrats to Kevin and all of Yorktown’s Seniors.

Hey guys,
We beat North Salem today on Senior Day 13-5 to improve our record to 13-2 and our boys became ‘Undefeated’ League Champions. We are so proud of all of you! Go Kennedy Catholic!!!!
Yes Relax Town played the staters parts of the game mixing them with the 2nd 3rd and 4th lines.
In goal tonight was 8th grader, it’s was Senior night so all Sr that don’t play that much played with a mix of Sr that do, then the bench was opened up for rest of game.
Thanks Sec1. That’s incredible depth & coaching. I thought #18 was hurt until they mixed him in. Really classy move. The stands lit-up when McCarthy scored. Town is a special program. After watching GC yesterday & ‘town today it’s obvious what makes them Great Nationally ranked teams. I didn’t see the 1st half, but Wantagh had GC 5-3 & the Trojans ran off 9 straight goals. Their coaches are similar to ‘towns. Excellent! I really hope to see another great Downstate Championship game. GC seems to be a slow starter sometimes. Yesterday was an example & last years downstste finals game at WP is another. Hopefully, ‘town can jump out to a bigger lead then last year & keep it. You Gotta Believe, but first they need to get there. Good Luck
Folks stop all the talk about what’s been transpiring lately. Playoff time ,big guys step up.
Iona Prep game, Suffern game etc . This section will still come down to :
In A- Mahopac and L/P
In B- John Jay and Town
In C- Bronxville and someone in second
Its gonna happen. Put a face on it!!
