For a team that has enjoyed a considerable amount of success — including postseason success — the last decade, Rye has actually been flying under the radar this season.
After the Garnets opened the season with a loss to Iona Prep, one of four setbacks in its first seven games, some wrote off Rye.
But now, as teams prepare to wrap up the regular season in the next two weeks, Rye is on a roll.
The Garnets have won four straight.
Today, Rye faces a Pleasantville team that has been challenged by an upgrade in its schedule.
Game-time is 5 p.m. at Pleasantville.
Also of note in Section 1, Mahopac, coming off an 11-6 loss to Yorktown, plays at Somers at 7 p.m. Somers (7-5) has dropped three of its last four. John Jay, which edged Lakeland/Panas 6-4 in its last outing, plays at Fox Lane at 4:30 p.m.
In a clash of Class C titles contenders, Hen Hud hosts Put Valley at 6 p.m.
It’s a light day on Long Island, but there are some good matchups in Suffolk.
Defending Class C state finalist Bayport-Blue Point visits Shoreham-Wading River at 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., Comsewogue hosts Harborfields. Mount Sinai plays at Sayville at 4 p.m.
In Connecticut, Darien, the unanimous No. 1 team in the latest New Haven Register weekly rankings, hosts Greenwich at 4:30 p.m. in a game that pits former Darien player and assistant coach Scott Bulkley, now in his third years as GHS head coach, against his former team.

Here are my picks for today…
Pac 11, Somers 9
Rye 12, Pville 4
HH 9, PV 8
Darien 11, Greenwich 7
Thoughts?
Guessing Darien/Greenwich will be more along the lines of 12-5
Is Jay going to come out and practice O and man to man D against Fox Lane ? Im watching the Big East semifinals now wondering this..
St John’s 5 Notre Dame 2 at halftime of the BigEast Semi’s. Connetquot’s Kieran McArdle w/ 2 & 2 for St John’s. I’d love to see St John’s predominantly NY/LI team knock off ND the #2 team in the nation
St John’s 7 ND 3 McArdle 3 & 3 with an assist to Ryan Fitzgerald Fr Putnam Valley. Change that to 3 & 4 for McArdle & SJ 8 ND 3 thru 3 Major Upset on the back of McArdle’s 7pts Nice
ND scores 4 goals in 4th 8-7 ST JOHN’S final!!!!!
Great effort by St. Johns but the refs blew it at the end. They stopped play with ND pushing it after a turnover because St. Johns was guilty of n infraction. Either off sides or interference. Either way it’s a play on and ND had considerable momentum
North Rockland girls stay unbeaten, beating Clarkstown South 15-11.
JJ 9-4 Final
J played everyone starting midway from mid 2nd period.
JJ Played all but #21 Scapperotti?
wasn’t he just a mid-season JV call-up – whats the big deal?
He made the team last year as a sophomore.
Did the starters come out that early, or just rotations with the bench ?
Yes out early
Hen Hud and Put Valley are tied 5-5 at the half.
Hen Hud, Put Valley still tied 5-5. There’s five minutes left in regulation.
Hen Hud, Put Valley are going to OT. PV will have possession and an EMO opportunity to start the extra session..
Georgetown-bound midfielder John Van Deveerdonk scores early in OT to give Put Valley a 6-5 win over Hen Hud.
Hopkins-bound midfielder Matt Ledwin went 13 for 16 on faceoffs and had a goal for Hen Hud. Senior goalie Elliot Astor shut out PV in the second half on Senior Night. We could very well see Hen Hud and Put Valley meet again in the Section 1 Class C playoffs.
Also, Hen Hud junior attackman Kevin McDermott had 3 goals and was awarded offensive player of the game on David Palmisao Memorial night. David was a 1993 Hen Hud varsity lacrosse player whose life was tragically cut short. Each year the Sailors play a game in memory of David. Thank you to the Put Valley team for their good sportsmanship on this fine evening.
There was a penalty on HH with 7 sec left in regulation. PV held the ball but OT still started with a face-off. Does the rule that team with possession during a penalty gets the ball next period not apply in OT?
A scoreless 2nd half by the two teams with the hardest C schedules in sect.1. Something tells me either HenHud or PV will meet up w/ Bville for the sect.1 C title
Wasn’t it 5-3 PV at half-time?
PV Laxmom: Yes, the score was 5-3 at the half. And to answer your other question, what was explained to me is that the PV player passed the ball right at the end of the 4th quarter. The ball was in the air when the horn sounded. So no possession, and OT started with a FO. Strange but true.
Final: Darien 8, Greenwich 4
Darien 2 – 4- 2 – 0 = 8
Greenwich 1 – 1- 1- 1 = 4
Darien Record: 11-1 (9-0 in FCIAC)
Greenwich Record: 6-6 (4-4 FCIAC)
Darien Scoring:
Case Matheis 3-2
Kevin Seiler 1-2

Peter Lindley 1-0
Bobby Weaver 1-0
Tony Britton 0-1

Darien battles St. Anthony’s on Saturday at DHS Stadium – 2pm

Kevin Cousin – 1 Goal 3 Assists
Alex Corpolongo – 3 Goals 1 Assist
Saves:
Chris Cousin – 10
Ross Thompson had 3 assists
So Mahopac is pretty bad huh?
Mahopac played no one early on. It will all even out. I think they finish 9-7 (beating only Suffern the rest of the way). But will be in the Sectional Finals of A – in a very weak Class A. No prediction yet who wins. Class B is a slugfest, Class A is a snoozefest…just my opinion.
Agree. Mahopac would not even make the Class B semis. Amazing LP game was as close as it was. LP must have had an off day. When they play Mahopac again they win 14-7.
Final: Shoreham-Wading River 11, Bayport-Blue Point 7
Final: Don Bosco Prep 14, Mountain Lakes 3
Wow is mt Lakes in a down year?
By the Lakers’ standards, yes. They’ve now lost three of their last four, including a 17-7 setback to Delbarton, but are still 7-3 overall. Don Bosco, which beat Mountain Lakes 7-6 in OT last year, is now 11-0.
Brewster 5 Wappingers 1
Rye score?
Rye wins 12-4 making Sirlaxalot a prophet with his prediction from earlier today. Balanced scoring effort with Stern, Davis, Santangelo and Hasselmann each scoring 2 goals.
Thx
Rye is off a little this season – I believe has only beaten one team with winning record. Dooley usually has them peaking towards season’s end, but this year may be more about schedule.
Still don’t count them out come playoff time, but B is a dog fight this year.
Rye is scrappy and can play some decent lax but is off by more then a “little” this season from last. In fairness Rye graduated all starters but one and now with exception of couple good seniors plays some talented but young sophs , a freshman and jrs. Just one of those transition things.
Agree with young talent learning on the go, should result in depth and experience in coming seasons. Really respect the Dooley’s approach and coaching style; great role models for kids.
Good luck the rest of the way.
Arlington with a nice win against New Fairfield, 8-5.
