We have a nice mix of intersectional/conference games with some regional showdowns on tap for this Lacrosse Saturday.
Let’s start in Connecticut, where 2010 FCIAC champ Greenwich hosts 2011 Class M state champion Wilton at 11 a.m. If you don’t make it out to the game, you can watch the premiere broadcast on Monday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hudson Valley/Connecticut region on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum), following the 7 p.m. edition of High School SportsDesk “Lacrosse Monday.”
Also today in Fairfield, Staples plays at Darien at noon.
New Canaan, coming off a 9-5 season-opening loss to Wilton, looks to bounce back when it hosts Somers at 6 p.m. in an interstate game that is a rematch of one of the season’s wildest games last year, won by Somers 15-11.
Brunswick, which has played three overtime games in its first four contests, has its home opener at 3 p.m. against Loomis Chaffee on Brunswick’s King Street campus in Greenwich.
The Section 1 slate features a noon game between Rye and host John Jay.
St. Anthony’s will look to bounce back from Thursday’s 6-5 loss at Chaminade when it plays at Delbarton in an 11 a.m. game. You can catch the contest at 3 p.m. tomorrow on MSG Varsity Channel 14.
In other intrastate showdowns of note , Yorktown visits Fallston (Md.), St. Augustine Prep (N.J.) plays at Haverford (Pa.) and Summit (N.J.) hosts St. Joe’s Prep (Pa.).
Is there a big game we didn’t mention? Be sure to provide info in the “Comments” portion of this thread.
A big college game in the region to keep an eye on will be played at 1 p.m. at Fairfield University as the 14th-ranked Stags (9-1) host unbeaten, fourth-ranked Loyola.

Congrats to J on the win.
This season, Rye plays a freshman and numbers of sophs and juniors so hopefully came out of this close game vs a top quality team with building confidence. In particular thought FO’s were strong and the play of soph goalie White was terrific.
Having not seen J play but aware of their good preseason play and very close game with Town, I’m sure they are capable of much stronger play. Seemed like they were “flat” out there. Lambert—-well he just stands out—period.
Also was surprised not to see Branca in goal?
Branca hurt his leg in the Suffern game.
OK. Hope he recovers quickly.

I was at the NC/Somers game. NC is ok, very sloppy and unorganized, do not think they will compete with the Conn big boys ie: Darien, Ridgefield, Wilton. They do have a very good goalie and defense plays a smothering style.
Somers is very limited in what they do, the attack doesnt do much. They have some good athletic middies. Again looks like Somers will struggle against the higher ups ie: Town, Jay, Lakeland, Mahopac. Interested to see this Somers team battle with Rye, and Brewster who I think are better.
Coaching also may be an issue for some of these upcoming contests.
ALSo, Can anyone shed some light on recent Section 1 Injuries. Beraradis Mahopac. Lambert and Branca JJ. Marasco Somers.
Happy Holidays to all
Lambert is hurt? Let’s keep it simple and ask : Are there any Jay players who typically contribute that will contribute less against Brewster because of injury ? Beraradis being out would affect Mahopac.
I also heard Lambert from JJ, Petreus from Ytown, Vandwrverdonk from PV are all hurt but playing
