Can Mahopac pull an encore?
The Indians enjoyed plenty of memorable moments during their run to the Section 1 Class A championship last year.
Among the biggest was a 12-11 double-overtime win over Yorktown.
The hero of that game was Anthony Berardis, who scored the game-winning goal (which you can watch here).
Berardis, a dodging midfielder, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Stony Brook University, selecting the Seawolves over Albany, Penn State, Ohio State, Hofstra and Siena.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound lefty, known for his speed, skills and athleticism, is first focused on his final spring at Mahopac.
Now, here’s Anthony’s perspective on the season:
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
As a team, we have weight workouts every Monday, Wednesday and. Friday.
On Tuesday and Thursday, we have morning sessions before school, working mainly on our stick skills.
We also play in a winter league against other teams every Wednesday.
How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
Our schedule hasn’t been finished yet, but I always look forward to playing Lakeland/Panas, Yorktown, John Jay, Somers and Suffern.
What player or players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
Patrick Donahoe, Tyler Weisberg and Ross Thompson at attack. All have good sticks and have the potential to have an impact.
At midfield, Charlie Evans and Nick Oliver. Charlie is excellent at the faceoff X and Nick has very quick feet.
On defense, Matt Fetzer, John Astrologo and Brendan Hynes. All know the defense very well. All of them could impact our team and open up some peoples eyes.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Our midfield.
How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
I would like to end my last season in Mahopac with another section title. Lakeland/Panas, Yorktown, John Jay, Somers and Suffern will all be tough teams to face.

Here’s hoping for a special senior season Anthony. Thanks for all your hard work and accomplishments.
Should be a fun season. Best wishes to you Anthony!
Pac-LP game should be very interesting as usual. Who does everything think will be the favorite going in?
Nice job Anthony. Have a great season.
Pac 8, LP 7. I rate it a tossup.
Big kid comes at you with power, a little bit like a young Ranagan. He makes Mahopac a contender. My Westchester/Rockland/Putnam and the Catholic schools:
1. Yorktown
2. Suffern
3. John Jay
4. Mahopac
5. Somers
6. Arlington
7. Lakeland/Panas
8. Iona prep.
9. Bronxville
10. Pelham/Rye
I disagree but only slightly. suffern and arlington are too high. no love for rye?
1. yorktown
2. john jay
3. mahopac
4. somers
5. L/P
6. bronxville
7. suffern
8. rye
9. iona prep
10. arlington/brewster
Within Classes I’m thinking (Just Section 1):
A
Pac
Suff
LP
Arlington
Brewster
Mamo
B
Town (heavy favorite, clear best in Section)
Jay/Somers
Rye
C
Bville
HenHud
Byrum Hills
Put Valley
I believe Brewster is still in B.
I’d like to hear more from the person who ranked Suffern #2 in the section?
I’m pretty sure that it is someone associated with Suffern, like a player or former player. wouldn’t be a shocker. the suffern players have a history of chatting up the message boards but not doing a whole on the field.
Not from Suffern lower Westchester. I have been watching Suffern last 3 years and I believe this will be their year to contend. McNally should be an AA, Sharp was only a freshman last year. Dgheim top pole? IMO I think they surprise a few of you doubters. Its all in fun in January well see come mid March and revisit my list. Looking forward to the 2012 season.
I have watched them, and their JV. They do not have the depth to compete in the top 5 of the section.
Wonder if Suffern’s “Wall Ball Ballers” will be back — and on the blog this spring??
Suffern had their chance last season and let it slip. McNally is a stud but they lack depth, as P&G noted. Sharp is a solid attackman but can’t handle the load by himself…He’s a senior btw. They lost a ton from last year, including three good defensemen and their goalie.
They won’t match up against any of the better teams across the river. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them slip up in Rockland against Clarkstown South or a very young but very athletic North Rockland.
I strongly think north rockland can win the county they bring back a lot of key players and have some young kids that will step up for them
excited for this LP Pac matchup, feel like both are going to be totally different teams than last year with who they graduated.
Feel like with all the players Mahopac, L/P, and Suffern graduated, there’s far too many unknowns going into the season. At this point you’d have to ask yourself which program has the best coach that will be able to rebuild their program into a contender again this year. Personally, based on his track record and the consistency over the past 5 years, I’d probably give the edge to L/P with Lindsay.
Have to give slight edge to L/P. Like the coaching, Monty at faceoff and help from lagerre, prunty, and that good young goalie.
