If you were us this afternoon on Twitter, you learned of a major commitment in the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.
John van de Veerdonk, a junior attackman at Putnam Valley, has decided on Georgetown University.
Be sure to check back to get John’s thoughts on his commitment.
In the meantime, we have some news involving two of the top programs in the region — perennial Section 1 champion Yorktown and defending Class L Connecticut state champ Ridgefield.
The teams have played a heated series the last two years, with extra spice added by the fact that Ridgefield coach Roy Colsey (pictured at right) was arguably the best player in Yorktown High School history.
In Colsey’s second year as Ridgefield coach in 2010, the Tigers started a two-game home-and-home series with Yorktown.
Round 1 went to Yorktown, 11-9.
In the teams’ second meeting, last season, Ridgefield took control early and won 14-8.
We’ll have to wait a while to see the teams play again.
They will not be meeting again in the 2012 season.
