If you checked our “Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown” earlier this evening, you learned that Yorktown rising senior Conor Gately, the state semifinalist Huskers’ leading scorer this past season, has made his college choice.
The 5-foot-10 attackman has given a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship offer from the newly formed Marquette program that will be competing in the Big East Conference.
Gately just wrapped up a strong junior season in which he had Gately had three goals and one assist in the Huskers’ 10-8 state semifinal loss to Garden City. Though known as a feeding attackman, Gately’s ability to finish in that game — against one of the nation’s premier defenses — attracted the attention of several major Division I programs.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Gately finished the season with 22 goals and 58 assists for 80 points.
Marquette’s head coach is former Hofstra assistant Joe Amplo.
The Golden Eagles announced on Dec. 18, 2010 that they will be launching D-I programs for both men’s and women’s lacrosse beginning with the 2012 season.
Be sure to check back for more on Conor’s commitment.

Congrats Conor. Good get for Amplo. He can build around a feeder like that. Amplo should do well in tristate region. Good recruiter.

BIG props to Amplo for landing a GREAT one…
Yo Con Man Congrats make Ytown Proud.
Congratulations! Whether they know it or not, Marquette just opened a feeding pipeline into Section One. I suspect they do…wink, wink.

Congrats again!
Congrats to Con Man from Port Washington — great kid, great family — don”t forget we taught you everything you know!
is there ever gonna be a Q&A?
Taught him everything he knows?
Yorktown Lacrosse pal 😉
Congrats. Terrific player now and will only get alot better.
congrats con man. We are not surprised at all. You had great talent as a youth player and it just keeps getting better as you play. You will be a dominant force in D 1 we will be watching
Connor congratulations on your decision. Your hard work on the field and in the classroom have paid off. First year in a start up program will give you opportunities to jump in with both feet and lead the offense, a role that you are very comfortable with. Best of luck to you. Go Town!!
