Fairfield Prep players had plenty to celebrate earlier this week as the Jesuits easily handled Cheshire 12-2. Last year, Cheshire beat FP three times, including 9-8 in the Class L state final.
The average price of gas in the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, is about four bucks a gallon these days.
Today, at least, lax fans in the region can get a little relief.
There are quite a few games involve teams in adjacent towns. Some are long established rivalries, others not so much.
Yesterday, a few games that fit that description turned out to be down-to-the-wire affairs as Greenwich rallied to beat New Canaan 10-9 and Somers won at Mahopac 8-7 in OT.
There are plenty of games today in which you won’t need to fill your tank to get there.
Among those matchups:
Great Neck North visits Great Neck South at 4:15 p.m., Irvington visits Hastings,, Mamaroneck is at Pelham, Dobbs Ferry hosts Ardsley and Eastchester hosts Bronxville at 4:30 p.m., Harrison hosts Rye at 4:45 p.m. and Scarsdale visits White Plains at 7 p.m.
There are also lots of big games on Saturday, including the battle of the nation’s top two teams, Haverford (Pa.) and Darien, as well as Manhasset and John Jay and Summit (N.J.) and Ridgefield, the 2009 FCIAC champ. (Ridgefield is looking to end Summit’s 51-game win streak.)

Joe, I’m sorry, but forget Friday, EVERYONE is looking to Saturday. What a ridiculous slate of games this weekend. I can’t believe everyone isn’t talking about this. I’ve been around a while, and I can’t recall a weekend with anything close to this number of high profile non-league or interregional games. You mentioned three, I just started looking around the schedules, and this is the list I found:
Darien v. Haverford
Set v. Jay
Summitt v. Ridgefield
Delby v. Georgetown Prep
Chaminade v. West Islip
Greenwich v. Conestoga PA
Wilton v. LaSalle PA
Somers v. Niskayuna
Garden City v. Duxbury
Chatham NJ v. Fairfield Prep
Comsewogue v. Springfield Delco PA
Can anyone remember anything like this? The only thing that comes close is the Hand tourney. Enjoy the games.
I guess if you’re going to tell the Mrs. that you’re off to Home Depot as a ruse to catch some of these outstanding games, tomorrow is a better day to do that than today.
Speaking of Saturday’s games, Manhasset at John Jay has been moved up to a 2 p.m. start. It was originally set to be played at 7 p.m.
why is it not a night game joe?
Weather related, Ron. It was moved up because of the heavy rainstorm expected to come Saturday evening.
That must be some storm back east. They moved the Duke-Uva game tomorrow as well.
Too bad the game isn’t in “prime time”. Always makes me recall the 3OT thriller when Jay finally beat Set.
Wish I had known that about Duke-VA – had the DVR set for 12:00 start and so only have half of the game…..
Score update: King 6, Harvey 2 at the half, reports Jim Stout of MaxPreps.com.
Harvey had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.
Final: King 9, Harvey 4
Bronxville-19
Eastchester-7
CSH 6 Locust Valley 3
GN South 16, GN North 4
Mamo 7, Pelham 1
Byram 10, Cl South 4
Westlake 8, Bcliff 7
Rye 13-Harrison 5
Good win for Rye, they needed this one. Tough one tomorrow.
it isnt like harrison is good. i would have expected rye to do a little more damage than this
914- coach dooley put backups and subs in very early, went to second string goalie after first qaurter
#12 for Harrison scored at least 2 goals and has a rocket shot–good player on any team.
