Gameday Monday, 3/28: Pearl River, Suffern start Section 1 season

Long Island was in the spotlight last week, with a full week’s worth of season-opening games, including Chaminade beating Holy Trinity 9-3 on Friday (photo above).

This week, it will the Hudson Valley, capped off by the annual showdown between archrivals John Jay and Yorktown.

Next week, it’s Connecticut.

By the time, it’s all over, each region in our primary coverage area will have gotten the regular season under way.

In the first matchup of Section 1 teams of the young season, Suffern hosts Pearl River at 4:15 p.m. at Suffern Middle School.

Here’s a complete rundown of what’s scheduled for today.

Riverhead at East Hampton, 4 p.m.
Island Trees at Freeport, 4 p.m.
Longwood at Bayport-Blue Point, 4 p.m.
Georgetown Prep at Half Hollow Hills East, 4 p.m.
Cherry Creek at Wantagh, 4 p.m.
West Hempstead at Clarke, 4:15 p.m.
Baldwin at Half Hollow Hills West, 4:15 p.m.
Pearl River at Suffern at Suffern Middle School, 4:30 p.m.
Mepham at Seaford, 4:30 p.m.
Sachem East at Eastport-South Manor, 6:30 p.m.

In a scrimmage of note, Rocky Point visits Ward Melville at 3 p.m.
