Hey Joe,
did u go to Ct Super Sophs? Real talent was there from the class of 2012
Hey Kevin –
No, I didn’t. What were your thoughts on it?
I was at the Ct Super sophs some really good players out there.
Combine in the morning was very interesting for the kids. The games were all great. Good talent from all over Conn.,some NY players there too.
Not sure why they got shirts instead of pinnys for the players.
Good stuff. Lots of new names added and updated from the last thread.
Congrats to John Jay rising senior midfielder Jake Weil, who has verbally committed to Dartmouth. Jake’s stock really rose after a strong summer with Prime Time in which he made the all-star team at Hotbeds.
Congrats Jake! We’re all proud of you!
kids from CT Super Sophs were really good.
Wow lots of new names since the old post on recruits
Baylis Treen – Darien
Lafayette, defense
David Dickson – Greenwich
Bucknell, M/A
Graham Maybell – Darien
Villanova, M
Sachem North coach Jay Mauro informed me today that rising senior midfielder Angelo Armine committed to Division II Molloy in Rockville Centre.
“He is a tremendous athlete with great intangibles,” Mauro said. “He is a throw-back type of midfielder who faces off, plays offense, defense, on the wing and is great in transition.”
Good job with Angelo. Most of the D-2 schools give full rides.
Pequa,
One more uninformed blogger. No Div 2 schools give full rides, they only get 8 scholarships total, and I would bet you that less than 5% of the div 1 scholarships are for a full ride. Just one more person who has NO IDEA how the process works.
actually Long Lost Laxer, between academics, and athletics “full rides” are not that uncommon in D2. Smaller schools have way more flexibility when it comes to academic $. You owe Pequa an apology.
Congratulations to Somers rising senior middie Anthony Lombardo, who told me today he’s committed to Binghamton University. Be sure to check back for a Q&A with Anthony on his commitment.
Lion Town,
I don’t think so. The worst thing that goes on in HS/youth athletics is that every mom and dad thinks that their child is going to get an athletic scholarship and college will not be a cost that they will have to take care of. There was no mention of academics entering into the financial equation. If your child can put together a package of academics and athletics that earns them a full scholarship, I think that is terrific. But please don’t hold the carrot out there that “your child will get a free ride to college if you put them in sports” the fantasy is a long way from the truth. I speak from experience with 2 of my kids going to Major Div 1 schools who fully funded the scholarship limits on the teams.
Congrats Anthony! Good luck in the upcoming football and lax seasons.
your kids went to major D1 schools so that makes you “more informed” than Pequa when it comes to D2 schools.
Smaller schools have an easier time giving away academic money than Big schools (as long as it’s offered to the entire student body it’s ok). So D2 schools do tend to have better finacial packages than most the “Major D1s”.
I don’t think you can differentiate one “free ride” from another just because one of them is 1/2 academic. Pequa is much closer to being right than you are.
Lion town,
we’ll agree to disagree. i don’t see how any div 2 school can give more money then a harvard, with its $25 billion endowment, or Penn State, or Princeton, or Texas. But in any case, my major point is that parents should not count on their college bill going away because their kids play sports. And that was my complaint about “most Div 2 schools give full rides”.
Long time laxer, your argument is flawed because you’re using Ivy League schools as an example of schools giving out a lot of athletic scholarships. I guarantee you that Harvard, nor Princeton give more money in athletic scholarships than any DII schools. Even with their ‘$25 billion endowment.’
Ivy league schools may not give out athletic scholarships! They are under the same regulations as D-3 school, although it is self imposed. They may just recruit and give out slots. Ivy’s can determine their own financial aid eligibility. As for large D-1 scholarships, if they are a state college they must follow federal financial aid regulations for financial aid awards. They can however divide up their athletic scholarship as the coach sees fit. Private institutions can determine financial eligibility themselves. It is a much more complicated process than discussed.
Guys,
You can pick particulars out of my argument all you want, but except for football and basketball, Athletic full ride scholarships are few and far between. It makes me cringe everytime I see someone bring it up in a forum like this. Anything that furthers the myth that “my kid is getting a free ride from sports” is a huge disservice to kids and their parents. And if you look at my last post, it doesn’t say anything about harvard or princeton giving athletic money, it just says money.
Hey gang –
I got word earlier today that Wantagh rising senior Ryan Walsh, a 6-4 attackman who was one o the leading players on the LI ESG team, has verbally committed to Colgate.
Be sure to check back for more.
hey joe,
do you report on kids who commit to d3 programs?
Anon –
Absolutely. In fact, if you check the “Class of 2011 commit list,” you will see quite a few.
If you know of any, e-mail them to me at joe@laxlessons.com.
Thanks
Rye rising senior midfielder Matt McReddie, a member of the Hudson Valley ESG team, has committed to Bates College. Be sure to check back for some thoughts from Matt on his commitment.
Congrats Matt! Exciting news! Bates is a great fit for you…
Sam Somers, Wilton, goalie – Army
Congrats to Yorktown rising senior attackman Jake Thorp, who has committed to the College of Saint Rose, which will be launching a Division II program in what will be his freshman year – 2011-12.
Be sure to check back for a Q&A with Jake on his commitment.
With its location, St. Rose can be one of the top D-II teams real quick. Good luck there Jake.
wow the commitments are really rolling in. i check here atleast once a day and there’s always like one new one.
laxfan said it best in #20. long time laxer was right as well in #12. 5% of DI scholarships being full rides is probably way too generous. You would be amazed at how many $500 scholarships are handed out in DI. lol.
Less than 1% of college athletes across the board receive full-ride athletic scholarships. All others receive a combo of athletic money, financial aid and academic bucks. Academic bux are where DIII schools shine.
No athletic money for Ivy or DIII.
St. Rose should do well with recruiting areas of Nisky, Section One and West – It’s good to see a new program.
Congrats to Matt M. on Bates College – great kid, solid player.
Congrats to Jake T. on St. Rose…
…have fun, play hard, study harder!
Anyone know who Fairfield Prep’s top recruits are?
Prep only recruits at this point are kevin maiorano and c-byrne.
but they have a lot of players expected to go and play college lacrosse.
Harry Cotter-3 year varsity player
Dean Duffy-3 year varsity player(talking to a lot of d1 and d3 schools)
Tyler Cox-3 year varsity player
Pierce Bushby-3 year varsity player
a great example of why i continue to come back here for more
Amen to that Pequa.
Joe/Long Island Fans,
Where have the Palesek brothers transferred to (from Hopkins)?
thx
SL –
Matt Palasek, an attackman who finished his freshman season at Hopkins, has transferred to UMass and will be eligible this season.
Tom Palasek, an attackman/midfielder who was one of Hopkins’ top players as a sophomore last year, is expected to sit out this season. Nearly all of the top D-I programs were out of scholarship money when he decided to transfer. Expect him to land at one of the nation’s premier programs, probably Syracuse. He will have two years of eligibility left.
Lanza from JJ just committed to Gettysburg…
Luke Miller- Mid- Floyd
DJ Allen- Attack- Floyd
both to Stony Brook (2011s)
LI Lax – Thanks for the info on the Floyd/Brook commitments.
Joe,
Thanx for the Palasek info.
Great job keeping us updated with the latest commitments. Good to see the Floyd kids staying local.
Just saw that the Morris’ of Jay are also commited to Gettysburg along with Lanza
Catching up on all the new commits before college football starts. Great stuff,,,
Case Matheis-Duke 2016
brian dubs and gabe weissman from HG commit to Hamilton and Middlebury.
I love this site..
Just saw here Rob Caffery has commited to Providence! COngrats my man.
Rob Caffery (Providence) and Mike Zavarella (WNEC). Strong!
Westrock is on a roll!
I love WR, I love Section One and I love this site!
Keep it going Section One!
Congrats to all the latest commits. Nice group of schools, including Chris Garibaldi from Salisbury, who is going to Union.
Rob – Congrats from one of your ESG parents – way to go!
Mike Malave (senior) and Trevor Brosco (junior), both Shoreham-Wading River midfielders committed to Hofstra and Notre Dame, should be a serious force to go up against this coming season. Saw them both preform at a high level in Suffolk v. Nassau showcase games.
I made the mistake of not checking this blog for two whole days. Now I’m struggling to catch up with the dozen or more commitments since then. But great job as always Joe!
Lots of new recruits.
AttkLax24 – I have seen them both and couldn’t agree more with your assessment.
Keep up the great work.
Congrats Ryan Hunter of Syosset on your commitment to Ohio State and thanks for getting the news up Joe. We appreciate your coverage of Syosset lax through the years.
ryan matthews of manhasset committed to johns hopkins
was out at the Brook today to see the Seawolves take on Brown and Horbart…only fall ball, but wow, did they look good, Crowley dominated everything..and Section 1’s own Savaugn Greene getting quality minutes..the ivies at a big disadvantage, as they are limited in the number of practices they can have in the fall, and Brown missing their leading scorer Andrew Feinberg, a proud member of the extended BigBadBear family…
Thanks for the info Big Bear. Sav Greene has worked hard and gotten better each year. He should be an impact player for the Brook this year.
Brook will need Sav and the rest of the D to step up, if they can hold their own, the offense will be as good as anyone…and for you club lax fans out there, Crowley was an MCLA player as a freshman,,,
Congrats to Ryan Miller on committing to Hop. He’s a hard working kid deserving of this opportunity.
Lots of new commits since last week at this time,
Soph committing. Dang that’s impressive
Just noticed a new junior commit, Cody Petillo from Sachem North, added to your list Joe. Nice job by Rutgers to land him. I was impressed by Cody over the summer – good athlete who can score.
Joe,
Since when are sophomores aloud to commit? They aren’t even aloud to have phone conversations or visit the school until they are juniors correct? Are these the rules or am I mistaken.
Laxer –
Under current NCAA rules, there are no restrictions as to when a recruit may verbally commit. There are restrictions on paid official visits (they cannot be made before September of the recruit’s senior year) and signed commitments or letters of intent (which are confined to senior year as well). But any recruit can verbally declare his intentions to intend a school anytime. There is now on the table an NCAA proposal that would prevent colleges from making athletically related scholarship offers to recruits prior to July 1 of the recruits’ senior year.
Laxer: Since when are you ALLOWED to comment in English? If you can’t figure out the language, try another one.

PLEASE do Joe and all of us a favor and find another blog too embarrass yourself on.
BBBear
Interesting posts as usual.
Where did Crowley play “Club” as a freshman–he wasn’t at the Brook?
You have great lax “lines” in the extended family.
sla:
Crowley played at Simon Fraser, the sole Canadian team in the MCLA in 2007 as a freshman, before he transferred to the Brook and the Canadian int’l team…indeed, I am a Brook alumni (WAY before they had real sports)
Thanx. Luv to see blue-collar teams like the Brook keep challenging and beating the traditional elite teams that load up with huge #’s of AA’s every season.
Briggs Barton- Connecticut College
Wonder when the next soph to commit will happen??
laxer- if that is true that is a huge pickup for that program
Just found this list now. Wow. Amazing job. You guys need to start covering NJ lax. You folks in NY and CT don’t know how lucky you are to have a site like this. There’s nothing like this anywhere.
Agreed.Joe does a fantastic job of keeping the site positive and informative.
10580 – Well said. I couldn’t agree more.
Wonder who the next class of 13 commitment will be from…
Jack Kraus- St.Lawrence (brunswick)
No commits from Fairfield Ludlowe?
I think we’ve read elsewhere that the twins are committed, but if you don’t let Joe know he can’t post it.
Sort of like the guy who prays to God every night to allow him to win the lottery, but the years go by and no jackpot. Eventually the fellow passes on and is greeted by the Lord at the pearly gates.
Man – “Lord, why didn’t you heed my prayer to win the lottery?”
God – “Well, you could’ve helped Me out and bought a ticket!”
Nice to see Trevor added to the Class of 2013!
Congrats to Trevor! Good job Yorktown.
Is Ryan Lukacovic from Chaminade commitited to any schools? If not what kind of schools is he looking at?
Has ryan lukacovic commited to any schools? If not what schools is he looking at?
goimg to uva
No kids from Scarsdale, or Byram Hills at all?
Don’t know alot of the kids on these two teams but would have thought at least that Byram’s very good goalie, Larrabee would be a recruiting target.
I see more and more Arlington kids springing up on the Class of 2011 list each day. Congrats all.
Lots of new commits this week.
frankie fusco. yorktown highschool.
frankie fusco. joseph raniolo. yorktown highschool
where has frankie committed
I’d be interested in seeing a list of recruits grouped by college. NYIT seems to have a full team in the class of 2011 recruits. How many will get to play? There are already 50 on this year’s roster!
Some boys (at least mine) who could “commit” are waiting for decisions by other colleges for academic reasons.
You can always refer to the recruit listing found on the main page on laxpower. It’s nationwide and also not subject to the kind of authority and accuracy that Joe provides in his listings here, but it’s a start if you want to see where the class of 2011 is committed to for the schools your boys are interested in. For the Class of 2012 there’s a thread on the Inside Lacrosse blogs for comittments by school as well.
Good Luck!
Here is a link – searchable by class, college, division, etc – verbal or signed, really good resource
http://www.laxpower.com/common/recruits.php
Thanks. That was helpful, and fun to search.
How do schools commit 15 Freshman? Do they really get a chance to play? Do they have so many so when a player needs to study there is backup? I’m sure some upper classmen are off on co-op, or doing research? Most of the guys are not going to earn a living as lax pros.
Some schools need a bigger recruiting class because they are graduating alot of Seniors, others carry a larger team, but then not everyone travels. Sure, freshman play – UAlbany and Ohio State both start Freshmen goalies. Study as metric of playing time? Doubtful – most larger programs have mandatory study tables for Freshman. If you are playing Lacrosse in college (or any other sport) you won’t be getting time off for interning during the season, or research. As a matter of fact, because you are playing a sport, if you major in certain areas (physical therapy for example) you will probably not graduate in 4 years because you cannot to the practicum because you just will not have the time, so it could add a year to your schooling.
If you are beginning a recruiting journey with (for) your kid there is a lot to learn, and I am sure most on this blog have been through it as a player and/or a parent.
Joe – is there a page on this blog for Parent’s beginning the process?? Just a thought. As we discussed, I know I learned a lot last summer.
Joe,
Any feedback from Sunday’s (6/5/11) Prep School Showcase at Salisbury School?
If you scrolled up to the Class of 2012 listings on this thread, you may have noticed a new commitment listed this morning. Byram Hills’ Andrew Larrabee has given a verbal commitment to Notre Dame. Congrats to Andrew, and be sure to check back for more on his commitment.
If you scroll up, you’ll see Eastchester rising senior attackman/midfielder Tom Cirillo has been added to the Class of 2012 commitment list. Cirillo has verbally committed to Division III champion Salisbury.
Mahopac rising senior standout Anthony Berardis has just committed to Stony Brook. Be sure to check back for more info on Anthony’s commitment.
Hey congrats to Anthony. Nice kid, super player, terrific parents, going to a top D1 program.
Absolutely, slacrosse. Anthony picked The Brook and new coach Jim Nagle over Albany, Penn State, Hofstra and Ohio State. Be sure to check back for a Q&A with Anthony on his commitment.
Congrats Anthony. So glad you stopped playing baseball. Your hardwork has paid off. Have a fantastic senior year and can’t wait to see you play in the NCAA tournament!
Anthony B. great job! another member of the 2010 ESG Hudson Valley going D-1
Congratulations Anthony! Best of luck!
