There was quite a long list of renowned collegiate programs that would have been very pleased to have gotten a verbal commitment from either Jimmy Morris (No. 20, picture at top) and Brendan Morris (pictured below).

But Gettysburg has to be especially happy right now.

That’s because both of the twin brothers have committed to attend the Division III power.

The John Jay tandem teamed up to provide their thoughts on their collective commitments:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Gettysburg?
Gettysburg has always been on our radar ever since we saw them play in the national championship game a couple years ago. We were looking for a school with great academics and competitive lacrosse and we found that in Gettysburg. When we visited Gettysburg and met with the Coach Janczyk we definitely saw ourselves going there.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
We were also considering Middlebury, Tufts, Wesleyan, Franklin & Marshall and Dickinson. We visited and met with the coaches for all of these schools.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
To be able to play at the next level we will need to work on our strength and speed. The college level is always bigger and faster. Also it never hurts to improve your stick skills. At JJ we have played against a lot of future D1 players and this will help us at Gettysburg.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Jimmy: My strengths as a player are good lax IQ, being a strong two-way midfielder who can clear the ball and having a great outside shot. My style of play is very hard-working and always hustling for ground balls.

Brendan: My strengths are my quickness behind the net, with great vision and finishing abilities. My style of play is scrappy and always riding hard.

What are your thoughts on playing with your brother Jimmy at Gettysburg and how did it come about that you both decided on the same college?
Since the beginning of the recruiting process we said that playing together in college would be great but not a necessity. As we got further along in our meetings we realized that the schools we were interested in wanted both of us. We were looking for the same things in a lacrosse program and college and Gettysburg fit all the criteria. We are very excited to play together for four more years after high school.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
We both realized we had the potential to play at the next level when we contributed a lot for the varsity team as sophomores, and started on a Section 1 championship team as juniors.

  2. Route 35 says:

Nice that Gettysburg is establishing a pipeline into section 1 following the outstanding career of Yorktown’s Tim Kurpis. Congrats to the Mo bros

  3. Laxit says:

Gettysburg is as selective a program as there is in D-3. Congrats guys!

  4. Old Rugger says:

Excellent move boys all the best

  5. LaxWatcher says:

Congrats to Morris Twins. Two of the toughest, smartest, most unselfish players in all of Section One. Their instincts, hustle and lacrosse IQ are only matched by their stick skills, ground ball and shooting ability. If they were 4 inches taller and 40 pounds heavier they would be replacing the Bratton twins at UVA. Good luck at JJ next year and at Gettysburg down the road!

These kids are always fun to watch. They work hard and hustle and play the game with such energy. Good luck at Gettysburg!

Don’t forget Bremer from John Jay was a standout a started for a couple of seasons at Gettysburg. Think he was Gburg class of 02. Ceglia from Ytown I believe started there and transfered to Syracuse.

  12. Laxit says:

For anyone who’s seen them play how are their games and styles of play similar/different?

  13. Purple Pride says:

    Jaybird I think that’s a good assessment.

  14. Salem Shores says:

I agree. I think that’s probably the best way to sum up the differences between the twins’ playing styles. Overall though, they are similar players – tough, aggressive kids with very high lacrosse IQ’s.

  15. Just sayin says:

Good to see Kids who may not be blessed with great size like the Morris twins and Case mathies (sp) still getting great college opportunities.
