Sachem North has been making a lot of noise but on and off the field of late.
Last year, the Flaming Arrows started the season by upsetting the nation’s top-ranked team, West Islip.
Yesterday, Sachem North’s number of Division I-bound seniors swelled to four with the commitment of defenseman Alex Harris to attend Stony Brook.
Harris, who was a member of the Long Island Empire State Games team this past summer, was an all-county honoree last season with a huge upside.
Here’s a Q&A with Alex on his commitment:
What were the main factors in your decision?
The great lacrosse program along with the academic program I am interested in studying.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was seriously considering West Point. I visited Hartford, Sacred Heart, Robert Morris and West Point.
What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
Get bigger, faster and stronger.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Having quick feet and natural instincts on the field. I would describe my style of play to be fast and physical.
What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
A player I look up to is a friend and former teammate, Evan Bloom, who is now attending and playing for Dartmouth.
When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
When I was promoted to varsity as sophomore and was able to compete with seniors. The coaching staff at Sachem North is unbelievable and the talent of my teammates have brought me where I am today.
