It’s mid-July and the recruiting scene is reaching its peak throughout the nation — and the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.
One of the nation’s premier recruiting events, the third annual Maverik Showtime Lacrosse National Recruiting Spotlight, gets under way today right here in our region, at Western Connecticut State University’s Westside Campus in Danbury.
The invitation-only event features 160 of the top rising sophomores and rising juniors from sea to shining sea. Action is highlighted by the all-star game on Wednesday night at 8, which annually attracts coaches from many of the top Division I programs in the nation.
Be sure to weigh in with any info/thoughts on this event and any other recruiting events you attend this week.

Laxpower waited till all the other all star teams were out to make their picks and still dropped the ball. Not one HV player on their 24 player all east region team. AND no honorable mentions either! How do you leave out Daniello? Prunty??? What a joke.

Congrats to George Benitez of Darien as well as Darien’s Case Matheis and FP’s Brendan Rotanz for being selected. Good to see Fairfield well represented!
Can anyone who was there today give us an overview on how things look so far? I realize players haven’t checked in yet most likely – but maybe tonight after some games are played?
We are happy to announce that Chris Wojcik ’96 has been named the new Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Lacrosse.
Do many/any Players attend that are from west of the Mississippi?

Don’t know about this year, but last year they had a couple of Oregon, a Cali, a St. Louis (close enough, it’s just on the wrong side.), a Texas and I think an Arizona.
Inside Lacrosse has posted an update from today’s AM session at Showtime:

Good to see the Byram Hills goalie (Larrabee) doing well at Showtime. Thought he had some great games this past season.

Poor showing by Section One on the rosters.
I’d say Duxbury and Darien are looking pretty strong for next year based on this. Good to see Lambert from JJ as an upcomming soph on the list.

Fox Lane – Anthony Grasso
Lakeland Panas – Chris Monteferante
*Byram Hills – Andrew Larrabee
Brewster – Harry Erickson

Believe I saw an Arlington kid as well
* – ALL STAR
impressive for the Byram Goalie Larabee-def nice recognition for kid not from a big name program
160 very good players at the all star game.
Not sure you get much bang for the buck with Showtime. Summer travel teams in showcase events like Hotbeds are still the best option.
Arlington player’s name is Dan Arket
This was an event for rising juniors and sophomores only, isn’t young Tim Schurr a senior next year? This is also an elite event by invitation only for guys all over the US, not a Section 1 showcase. Given that Sec 1 is a mini-hotbed struggling to keep up with other regions in NY State, I’d say getting 18 invites out of about 120 spots (15%) is pretty overrepresented. Just because you’re not invited doesn’t mean you can’t play, but you’d have to think the elite talent pool doesn’t go much deeper in those classes than those chosen.
– 160 Kids were taken
– Eddie Schurr is a rising senior, has committed to Johns Hopkins…Kevin Schurr, who attended Showtime, is a rising junior.
– Paul Carcaterra and Joe Ceglia are two of the three Directors (Both from YTown)
I do hate when posts I respond to get deleted.
I think the Maverik Showtime event has really caught on, at least with schools in the NY Metro/New England area. It’s a good event that compliments summer teams, not competes with them. I think it’d be better for all 160 (my error, was mixed up with Jake Reed) kids if there were no all-star game rather than one premier game that all the coaches show up for, but surely the organizers know better than I what brings the coaches.
Always a good event. Now in it’s 3rd year and has gotten even better.
