Andrew Fazio, who was one of nine players from the Hudson Valley named to the all-America team last night, hopes to help Lakeland/Panas earn a spot in Thursday’s state semifinals today. The Rebels face Section 9 champion Warwick at Middletown High School. (Photo by Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com)
In just a few days time, we will have state champions in both New York and Connecticut. But there are a couple of big days of lax left before Saturday’s state title games. Starting today.
But first, in case you missed the news last night, the nine all-Americans representing the Hudson Valley were selected. The group is headed up by three players from Lakeland/Panas, the Section 1 Class A champions: senior midfielder Shawn Honovich, senior defenseman Andrew Fazio and junior midfielder Conor Prunty.
Yorktown’s Kevin Interlicchio, who became the school’s all-time leading goal scorer, is the lone two-time honoree. Section 1 Class B champion John Jay was represented by a pair of Johns Hopkins-bound players: junior attackman Mike Daniello and senior defenseman Jameson Pickel. St. John’s University-bound senior attackman Ryan Fitzgerald, the all-time leading scorer in Put Valley history, represented the Class C champion Tigers. Also named were senior attackman John Brandofino (Mahopac) and senior goaltender Bobby Sincero (Hen Hud).
Here’s the rundown of today’s New York state quarterfinals and Connecticut semifinals.

Just check the brackets to see how the other side of the bracket (upstate) is going:
* Class A
* Class B
* Class C
Should be some good games!
Final Four Should Be:
A: WI – L/P
WG – OP
B: Nisky – GC
JD – Ham
C: Set – PV
Skan – Aquinas
In Connecticut Class S, undefeated Ledyard is playing St. Joseph’s of Trumbull, who threw the switch on Somers by a count of 12 – 4 yesterday. An intriguing matchup of a good FCIAC team versus a team which dominated their opposition in Eastern Connecticut.
The Somers honorees this year for All-League and All- Section:
Erik Pfiffner
Eddie Schurr
Greg Petre
John Bello
Matt Deiana
Congrats!
Ithaca will handle WG today…I expect them to be in the finals against WI.
And Fairport should easily handle OP

Congrats and great that LP and PV have beaten Section 9 but keep an even keel. These teams and section are very weak as usual.
The real test comes Th.
and congratulations to all the teams that made it to their regional scrimmages today! ‘cuse, you just helped lax take a step backwards. i don’t get you????
slacrosse, i agree with you wholeheartedly about sec 9 being weak but LP and PV did not look ahead and took care of the job at hand. and, yes, thurs at hofstra is going to be almost impossible for these two teams to move onto stoney brook. great season tho!!
hey syracuse, what’s that all about? the guy is providing updates to and important game to most of us here. scrimmage? wow!

Class S: St. Joseph-Trumbull (15-6) vs. Weston (19-3)
goodluck to PV and LP ill be there
ha ha. syracuse is such a silly old man!
I wouldn’t read much into the LP win. If you look at Town’s road to the semi’s each year they crush the 1/4 final team (sec. 9–who is usually the playdown team) and then lose to WI or LI. As nice a run as LP is having, they have no answer for the WI Offense. Can’t imagine Scotty Craig intends to have Galasso sit still for Fazio the way that Town had KI play the finals. Galasso creates so much OP around him that it doesn’t even matter if he shoots–though his shooting skills are awesome too. WI 14 to LP 5–if its even that close.
PV will get crushed again by an even stronger Manhasset team. 17-3.
joe, here to help… thanks. going to be a tough day on the desk today. guys from garden city, guy w/ a nephew on manhassett, former LI aa’s and little ol’ me from LP/PV area. helppppppp!
also, wondering how many goals i should be getting in the PV/manhassett & LP/WI games? alot of guys to be buying luch for you know.
Is there a place to find all league and all section selections?
Syracuse- Green alumni– thanks to both of you folks on here for your support of the last 2 section 1 teams still in it. You both have shown yourselves for what you really are. I have a tough time understanding your logic. During the season maybe as we all compete with one another, but in sectionals most of us support our section 1 teams. NOt the haters and the jealous.
Last year I remember being proud of each section one team as they took to the fields in Albany. A respect for the Talent in our section, then rooting for each accordingly. What a shame for you two and a few other, but I’m glad many poster on here feel the same way about our section 1 teams as I do
Good luck to both the Valley & Lakeland , I always stand tall at work in NYC , when i tell my co-workers we are Section 1 lacrosse , some of the best talent anywhere . Way to be Mr. Lax , Slacrosse and Mad_Lax
Good luck to LP and PV. Play well. Regardless of the outcome it will be a great experience for both these teams to have the chance to play 2 of the truly best teams in the country. LP and PV will have some kids on the field that can absolutely play with the best that WI and Sett can throw at them!
Good Luck PV and L/P slow it down and keep possesion. Easier said than done but this is why they play the games.
dee-up: weak effort. Just calling it like I see it. It is not a question of supporting a section one team. Lets not be blind. In addition, I don’t want to hear how everyone should support sec one teams when the bulk of the bloggers simply hate on yorktown for sport. If you can give me a reason why WI won’t win lets hear it. Otherwise, face the facts: WI is a more talented team with mroe depth and the best O player in the country. Fazio will be in way over his head on Galasso. He went 3-1 on Fennessy last year.
Agreed Green As I remember KI neeted 4 in the Cup Galasso is a different animal and the double that was coming against KI,Brando,Daniello etc will just open up another weapon that WI has Hodgson for example.Gonna be a tough task but anything can happen.
Also I think that PV is in way over their heads with set.Buhr is a beast.
Man people are overly sensitive and twist comments any way they like to be combative. Mad-lax and dee-up and all you other guys quick to pull the trigger, chill out. I didnt slam L/P. I have never seen so many people so overly protective. Gimme a break. I merely said L/P is playing an easy team today and if Caffrey goes for 47 goals it’s not saying a whole heck of a lot. Lord almighty.
I’ve been backing L/P all season and have not taken a shot at anyone in Section 1. I’m so confident of that assertion I dare anyone to find a comment where I have, anywhere on this site. And making a prediction against a team you support doesn’t exactly qualify.
So happy hunting gentlemen.
green alum,
Just wanted to say your last post was spot on.
“Let me know when Mamaroneck beats somebody”
What’s inaccurate about that statement? Mamaroneck played nobody this season. Its best win was over White Plains, which is not saying a lot. They also lost to under .500 Brewster and 10-8 Hen Hud. Again, let me know when they beat someone. Not a shot. A fact.
‘cuse, what you merely said was “L/P is playing a scrimmage today”. yes, section 9 is weak but to come out and say that shows a total disrespect to the game and that’s where you struck a nerve. do you think any of the teams that were routed last night thought they were playing a scrimmage?
mad_lax,
C’mon man. History is history. With all the banter that goes back and forth on this site about seemingly everything, you choose to single out that comment? When Section 2 totally blew people used to view that state game as glorified line drills. Do you support L/P? If so, then I stand by what I said before. I think you were taking my comment as a slight against the Rebels, which is bogus. If you don’t support L/P, you’re being too sensitive. I’m sure Section 9 kids are not home right now saying “Oh that terrible lad ‘Cuse. How dare he.”
I think the subject was whether you had taken a shot at anyone in Section 1, and I would think that qualifies. What was most notable about that comment was if anyone had said something similar about Arlington that comment would have been deleted without hesitation.
odds are all both section 1 teams will lose. Yorktown lost last year with one of the best teams they had. Long Island is far more superior then us. The last time section 1 beat the island in the semi was the fluke win jj had against hungtington.
Carrie, you sound suspiciously like a Long Islander. lol.
But I think you’re right. The way Yorktown lost last year will definitely impact the way L/P plays this year. I see the connection.
Odds are nothing. We’ll know who wins after the game I suppose.
Lax Novice,
You are so misinformed. I have no power to delete comments. And if you think I actually care either way what is said about any team you’re sorely mistaken. Please man.
Someone who shall remain nameless tried to convince me that West Islip will running time L/P today. I hope to God that doesn’t happen. Section 1 needs a strong showing, even if it won’t get a win.
Hey, Syr, no worries. This year’s done after tomorrow, been an interesting one with some shifts in the typical paradym, hasn’t it? Have a good summer.
Who is up for doing what NJ does for the State champ…
Heck with the region by region do a seeding thing – a bit hard in this economy when school budgets are being scrutinized.. but the best way to say who is the best (or rather second best)
Not saying to use LP ranking but some sort of ranking.. So 2 HV teams can potentially play in the champ game (oh I mean 2 LI teams could play). Sorry Sect 3
