It’s been a busy few days for Johnny McGuigan.
He’s been spending the last few weeks preparing for his senior season as starting goaltender at Mahopac.
And this past weekend, he committed to Division II power New York Tech, where he will join teammate John Brandofino.
Last week, Brandofino shared his thoughts on the upcoming season. Now, it’s McGuigan’s turn.
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
As a team we work out a few days a week and play in one indoor game every week.
Can you talk about some of the key players you lost from last year and how you think you will be able to replace them?
Notable players that we lost were Tyler Perrelle (attack) and Brendan Synan (defense). It will be very hard to replace these two players but I think we will do a very good job of this because all our returning starters are working hard every day and some younger kids are stepping it up which is what we need.
What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
Kevin Carey (attack) and some defensive players like Joe Gargano are stepping up and I feel confident in them. You may not know who they are now but you will by the end of the year.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I think that we have a very solid defense that will be better then past years but our offense is definitely the strength of our team with all of our starting middies returning from last year and John Brandofino.

Go Johnny NYIT looks good in the future. They got two great players and two good kids.
Pac will be good this year. Midfield play was a main weekness last year but will be a major strength this year with the likes of: Thompson, Bernabo, Foley, Berardis, and new commer Evens returning. They still have Brandofino on attack with the two young guns from last year who split time (Boda/Carey). Only real loss for the O was Perrelle who by the way scored the winning goal over #20 colgate last friday. Go PAC
Agreed Pac Alum. Strong O with AA candidate Brando leading the way.Middies very good with Thompson winning the faceoffs and Bernabo the ground ball machine. Mcguigan one of the top goalies in the section. Fun year for the Pac.good luck boys
