Just in case you missed it, gang:
Iona Prep senior Nick Trizano needs one goal today to reach 300 for his careeer and is two points shy of second place on the all-time New York state points list. Trizano now has 507 career points two shy of the 508 compiled by former Hamburg High and University at Albany star Joe Resetarits.

Our man Chris is at Ward Melville reporting on the Suffolk Class A semi vs. Whitman.
Chris just checked in to say that Jimmy Ryan is playing his first game of the year for WM.
Check back for further updates and be sure to post info/scores on any games you’re at.
Whitman at Ward Melville update:
It’s scoreless midway through the first quarter. Chris reports the teams look pretty even.
Army-bound Cody Ferraro scored the first goal of the game to give Ward Melville a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots start the second quarter leading 2-0 and a man up.
Whitman gets its first goal Brennan from Mills with 20 seconds left in the second quarter. Ward Melville leads 4-1 at the half.
Ward Melville ups lead to 6-1 with 7 minutes to go in third quarter.
Ward Melville leads 8-1 after three quarters.
Final: Ward Melville 10, Whitman 1. The Patriots move on to next week’s Section 11 Class A final.
Iona Prep leads SJB 2-1 with four minutes left in the first quarter. IP goals by Pete DeSalvo and Gus Guido.
SJB ties it with seven seconds left in the first quarter. It’s 2-2 after one. Nick Trizano has not scored.
Iona Prep was held scoreless in the second quarter. SJB leads 3-2 at the half.
Iona beat SJB 10-5 in the regular season, but SJB had several key injuries, including to two starting attackmen in that game.
Nick Trizano scores his 300th career goal. It comes 1:47 into the third on an overhand bounce shot just outside the crease that ties it at 3-3.
IP takes the lead off the ensuing faceoff as Myles Gillespie scores off a feed from Trizano, who now has two points and has surpassed Joe Resetarits (508 points) for second place on the all-time NYS scoring list, behind Casey Powell (553) and ahead of Mike Powell (499).
It’s been a historic day here at Iona already. Gaels now lead the Cougars 4-3 midway through the third. Stay tuned for further updates.
Things really opened up here in the third quarter. Iona outscores SJB 6-2 in the period after there was just one goal scored by both teams in the second quarter. IP leads 8-6 heading into the fourth. Trizano is still 1-1. Gus Guido has three goals.
Final: West Islip 10, Connetquot 4
WI will play Ward Melville for Suffolk Class A title on Thursday.
Trizano scores his second goal of the game. IP leads 11-8 midway through the fourth. Trizano is 2-2.
IP leads 12-10 with a minute to go. SJB has the ball.
Final: Iona Prep 12, St. John the Baptist 10
The Gaels win the State Catholic Class A title.
Congrats to Iona on their championship and to Trizano for that incredible achievement. Regardless of competition, getting more points than Mikey Powell is something to proud of.
WM played a great game today. After the first 6 minutes looked pretty even following Myles Jones winning the opening faceoff, WM got on the board first with Cody Ferraro who had I believe 4 goals, maybe 5. This is the 4th time I have seen him in person and he has impressed me every time. Once WM got that second goal, it almost seemed like the game was over already. WM’s defense was as always very stingy, they doubled Myles Jones the second he touched the ball, and he was slow to recognize and pass out of the doubles. Whitman has many capable scorers such as Mills, Brennan, and Teretsky, but none of them got into much of a flow. Jimmy Ryan playing his first game for WM didn’t do much on the offensive end but he was matched up on Myles for most of the day (with a lot of help from the early slides) and played well on defense. WM is going to be a tough out once again for WI. My pick is WM in a close low scoring game.
Congratulations to Trizano, that is one incredible achievement!
Darien leads Wilton 3-0 after one. Goals by Brickman, Foley and Mulligan.
4-1 Darien 4 minutes till half
Darien leads 5-1 at the half. Foley now has two. Wheelock also scored. Franca scored a man-up goal for the Warriors.
Iona Prep coach Rick Trizano just checked and discovered Holy Cross-bound Myles Gillespie’s third and final goal today was the 200th of his career.
Wow. A first-ever state title, 300 goals and 511 career points for Nick Trizano and 200 goals for Gillespie.
Don’t think I’ve ever been at a game with so many monumental milestones. To state the obvious, it was the most significant and historic day in the history of the Iona Prep program.
Darien leads 9-2 after three. Foley now has three. Wheelock two. Dysenchuk has scored. Franca has both Warrior goals as the Darien D haa contained Peter McMahon.
Final: Darien 11, Wilton 3
Foley 3 goals, Matheis 2, Wheelock 2,
New Canaan up 2-1 late in the first quarter.
3-1 NC. Defense continues to do an impressive job against Ridgefield’s high-powered O.
Here’s more on West Islip’s 10-4 win over Connetquot: Nicky Galasso had 6 goals and 1 assist, Shane Craig went 1,3. The Lions will face Ward Melville in the Section 11 Class A final as Joe noted earlier this afternoon when we first posted the score. .
Kieran McArdle scored 3 goals for Connetquot.
New Canaan leads 4-2 in the second quarter.
Yeah IONA!!!
First ever State champs!!!
Congrats Nicky and Myles on your milestones. Joe it’s good you put up a photo of DeSalvo. He is the heart of the team along with those guys O’Hagan, Jackson and Guido.
Cmon boys. I lnow we all had a sick time at the prom and all but time to starting playing!
UPDATE: New Canaan 4, Ridgefield 2 — 2nd. If James stops sending the updates I’ll still be here.
Keeler –
Maybe Colsey ran with your whole “Ridgefield JV would beat New Canaan” idea. If so, it does not appear to be paying dividends.
What’s the best way to pull an upset? Schedule the game the day after your opponent’s prom.
Prom baby. Its killing us. NC made us move the game and we didn’t get a drop of rain!!! We’ll be fine. You’ll see. Cmon I thought you were one of our main athletic suporters.
Syracuse you picked us to be Darien by 7 goals in the game 2 weeks ago. Why are you desserting us??
I love Ridgefield’s group this year (and would love to see them take FCIACs and states), but great teams don’t make excuses.
FCIAC moved the games – Egan & Co. didn’t. And if recollection serves, Ridgefield kids are a hardier lot than this; whining about hangovers and poor sleep at 5:15pm is a bit silly.
That said, I still expect Ridgefield to come back and win. But NC is certainly serving notice that they will be a serious contender next year (Campbell held White to 0/0s in the first game, and has done a phenomenal job on him thus far.)
5-5 at half.
Excellent analysis James. I agree with everything you say. Joe should add you to the staff. You know your stuff, man. Keep those updates coming!
UPDATE: Ridgefield battles back to tie it at 5 at the half.
Keeler Tav,
I am not abandoning you or Ridgefield. New Canaan may just be a lot better or more improved than many thought. The Rams have sort of flown under the radar a bit this year. This Ridgefield team is capable of scoring a ton of goals in a short period of time and still could win this game easily so let’s all be careful not to get too far ahead of ourselves.
Agreed CT Lax. Great job James. The more color you can add too the better but don’t want to keep you from enjoying the game.
Yeh, yeh You’re backpedaling now that we tied it.
What’s going on now James??
I have someone feeding me updates as well.
Keep it up Keeler and I promise you I’ll have a “Foley” or “Dysenchuk” jersey on next week. 🙂
too funny. james, appreciate the updates but a little color would be great. anything, we are dying here for some details.
What’s going on? Cmon James I was all set to bring a “James is da man” banner wit me to the game Tuesday nite.
UPDATE: 7-7 after 3.
OMG. OK. I’m not getting nervous or ne thing.
*@##@ prom!!
8 to 7 NC, 8 to go
I wish I could tell you more, but the information highway seems to be backed up right now so they can paint lines ….
NC scores man down. Costigan (soph) on fire.
UPDATE: 9-7 NC with 6:30 left. No, 3 scores on break says our guy.
Joe Costigan, the next coming at New Canaan …

NOOOOOOOOO!!! This is not happening!!
UPDATE: NC 10-7 with 5 to play. Newton on a ripper.

RIDGE TIES IT WITH 11 TICKS TO GO
wow… I’m getting excited just reading this. Come out Keeler it’s ok
wow, what a game. I wish I took the ferry across for this one rather than WM-Whitman this morning.
Ridge wins face. Timeout.
We’re in OT
Ridge wins draw, calls timeout
WOOHOOOO!!! Comeback kids!!! YEH MATTY WHITE!!
NC ball. 240 left.
I’m liking the emotion Keeler.
Ridge throws ball away, NC has it and call timeout
Oops. OK. Defense boys.
Ridgefield wins in a classic.
GAME OVER: WALSH. RIDGE 11-10
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
BRENDAN UR A LEGEND!!!!
Congrats to the Tigers on a great comeback, should be a classic rematch in the finals
Here’s an interesting question…if Ridgefield could either beat Darien and win FCIACs or win Class L states, but not both, which would it choose?
Well, that sure was exciting. Thanks to James for all his updates. Ridgefield moves on to face Darien in the FCIAC title game.
GOOD GAME NEW CANAAN!
RAH RAH RAMS!!
I’m sooo done with proms now.
Walsh was the clear MVP. New Canaan definitely served notice. Everyone returns.
How did the NC attack do? give me quick lowdown on who played well.
sounds like that Ridge-NewCan game was a lot like the Syracuse-Cornell championship game.
Excellent comparison. It really was. In every way.

Crushing loss for New Canaan, but they could be positioning themselves as the (slight) favorite in FCIACs next year. Ridgefield loses an immensely talented senior class, and Wilton and Greenwich will both be junior-heavy (not a bad thing when you have the current sophs those two schools do) in ’10. NC returns virtually every contributor, and Costigan and Granito – both sophomores – could be special. Newton, Garrison and Campbell are all garnering D1 interest, per my sources, in the current junior crop. And New Canaan’s current freshman class is simply loaded. Whitten could get it done in Year 3.
The wild card, of course, is Darien, which seemingly always reloads – but I feel that times may be a changin’ in the FCIAC. Aside from West (who is an able replacement for the likes of Madalon and Love) and Bryan Annechino, the younger Blue Wave have not flashed big league potential. This contrasts sharply with previous years…
I’m not saying that the Blue Wave are slipping, but the FCIAC should be very, very interesting next year. Loads of parity.
Great day of lax in CT! The FCIAC semis were great games. NC gave Ridgefield everything they could handle.Ridgefield v Darien will be a fantastic match up of two very talented teams. Can’t wait!
New Canaan Lambs blow it… How terrible for them, they had the game in hand.
Has it been 3 years now that everyone has said Darien is sliding and not nearly as good as they were? I suppose when they face the best Ridgefield team ever on Tuesday we will find out but I have to think that Ridgefield has lost some of the swagger they had earlier in the season and will face a Darien team that has been executing very well and relishes a rematch for the FCIAC title.
laxconn – Trust me, I have been a strong believer in Darien year in and year out (perhaps too strong, in this team’s case.) I just don’t see the ’10 talent.
That being said, Darien absolutely suffocated Wilton’s offense this afternoon – if someone can shed light on how this Warriors squad toppled Yorktown, I’d greatly appreciate it – and will be ready for Ridgefield on Tuesday. And Tyler Foley reaffirmed my preseason view that he is the second or third best player in Connecticut. He was unstoppable.
Hey James. Wilton beat Yorktown because Yorktown was extremely flat after emotional battle with John Jay in previous game. They simply took Wilton for granted. Yorktown got tight in second half and forgot to pass. Wilton goalie stood on his head and made 25 saves, many from point blank range. Wilton did just enough offensively led by impressive showing by McMahon. If these teams played 100 times Wilton would win once – and it happened two weeks ago.
James – could not agree more about how interesting the FCIAC will be next year. Wilton must figure out who the next McMahon, LaSala and Fuller will be. Based on yesterday, there doesnt appear to be that answer at the ready. But as you say, they are young.
Fan – The other major difference in the Yorktown game was Wilton’s D. They did to ‘Town what Darien did to them yesterday. Best game D played all year. Also, in watching the game, just didnt seem like Wilton had anyone as fast as almost anyone on Darien.
Wilton’s transition D yest was horrific – that is exactly how they lost their uncompetitive games this year (RF, St Ant and Darien Part II) and how they beat Town and were competitive with Darien Part I. They will have to shore this up if they expect to have a shot if they see Darien Part III. Hope the prom was fun, they seemed to have minds more on skirts than sticks.
CONGRATULATIONS to Ridgefield and Coach Roy Colsey.
I was Roy’s P.E. teacher way back in Middle School. Even, back then you knew that Roy was going to be a winner in anything that he attempted.
He was a very dedicated and talented kid. As you can imagine, he was extremely athletic and the best in the entire school any and all sports. However, the most satisfying thing was that he was always a very, very hard worker, and always was very humble.
Congratulations again and keep it going Roy!
Congrats to R’field for dodging the prom bullet. Its hard to win without a starting f/o guy. How many f/o’s did Nc win? Even with favorable FCIAC scheduling helping out..its the 1st time in Forever that NC hasnt had a shot at county title for 2 conseq years. What happened to the old coach?
Where can I find a box score for the Ridgefield-NC game?
[…] Saturday’s scores and highlights: Ridgefield rallies to overtake New Canaan in overtime; Darien handles Wilton; Suffolk Class A final set […]

Hopefully this link to the Stamford Advocate works, has box scores for both FCIAC semis.

I was a bit surprised at how easily WM won Saturday. Could they do the unthinkable and beat WI twice in the same season?
Ridgefield will be without Mirra (D), Scott (A), Morrissey (FO-GO) and Mueller (1st Line MID) for the Darien game…and I think they still get the job done…you heard it here first…
UncleLax,
Many Ridgefield supporters have been saying that winning the FCIACs is a done deal without any equivocation since the preseason, you’re a little late to the “get the job done” table. Unlike most others though, you’re already playing the injury card before the game is even contested. I believe you are the first one there. I doubt you’ll have much company before tomorrow night, most Tigers fans won’t be using injuries as a crutch if things don’t go well, they’ll be focusing on the positive, not to mention the Class L States.
Unclelax – I could tell Scott got shaken up with a leg injury after a GB against NC, but what happened to Mueller? And isn’t it too early to rule them out? I’m sure they’ll do everything in their power to play tomorrow.
Lax Novice…the injuries are the prediction…not the outcome…no excuses from this end…
Wave…as far as mueller goes…academics maybe…not sure to be honest
