also clarkstown south and clarkstown north are playng at 6pm at south, what do you think about that game?
After watching New Canaan get absolutely run off the field by a Darien team that was not playing their best, I see St. Anthony’s beating NC by double figures. Also re:lax, I’d agree with your Ridgefield Syracuse score, except for the recent injuries. I say Ridgefield 9 Syracuse 8 in overtime. ha.
lacrosse –
Without a doubt, it’s always a big one when South meets North.
I see South winning pretty big for the second year in a row. Let’s say 11-4.
Also gang. As noted in the main body of this post, there are plenty of NCAA tournament games today and scores of players from throughout the Section 1/Fairfield/Long Island region involved. So keep an eye out for those as well.
Here’s a rundown of what’s on tap:

The updates only seem to load every hour, Joe. I seem to get posts in clumps, too.
Greenwich was tied with Darien 3-3 in the 3rd and lost it again… Brunswick Greenwich was 4-2 at half, Ridgefield Greenwich was 9-8 in the 4th, Wilton Greenwich was 6-5 in the 4th, and now Darien Greenwich was 4-3 midway through the 3rd. They don’t play 48 minutes. FCIAC may be interesting this year.
Joe – There is definitely a caching issue with how the posts are updated.
YORKTOWN-CHAMINADE NOTES: Guys, just got off the phone with Joe. I had a prior commitment today so I was just getting the news of the Town OT victory as you were. Anyway, Joe had some interesting things to say about the game. I’ll give you the quick hits now and then Joe will follow them up with a full recap tonight. Also, please note, Joe is going to Syosset-John Jay tonight. He will be sending me quarterly updates that I will post in the comments section, starting sometime after 7:15 p.m.
OK, as for today’s game, Joe said Chaminade, for those who don’t know, is extremely legit, maybe the best of all the teams Town has faced this season. The Flyers have guys going to Duke and Princeton and moved the ball like a college team.
He said this is exactly the type of win Yorktown needed going forward.
Conversely, Joe said if Yorktown had lost this game it would have been a tough defeat. But he gave the ‘Huskers a ton of credit for bouncing back in the OT after giving up the tying goal with 3 seconds left in the fourth.
Joe said Ranagan really showed a lot of heart today because he got shut down the entire first half and had his share of difficulties in the faceoff X going against Princeton-bound Bobby Lucas. But then he scored big goals late and won key faceoffs when Yorktown needed it.
Mike Bonitatibus had a solid game in goal. He certainly could not be faulted for basically any of Chaminade’s goals.
The Flyers were able to sustain possession and score pretty goals after working the ball around for extended durations.
Joe closed his comments with a statement that speaks volumes: “It takes a lot to impress me. Chaminade may be as good as any team I have seen this season. So, for Yorktown to pull out this game shows they have the potential to play big teams tough in big spots. Today’s win will only help them as we head toward June.”
Check back later for Jay-Syosset updates and scores from around the region, which will be posted in the body of this post. And, please, if you got the skinny on any game played today, especially White Plains-Putnam Valley, please share!
Thanks.
‘CUSE
Hey guys sorry about the caching issues, I have disabled it for the time being so the site may be a little slower but all the updates will be instant. Thank you to everyone for all the great comments and updates on such a busy Saturday. All help is greatly appreciated!!!
Byram Hills score?
Be sure to check the main body of this post for a rundown of today’s final scores.
BIG win for Town, Biggest win ever for White Plains? Honestly have never followed White Plains lax, but can’t recall a win vs. Top 5 type of team.
JOHN JAY-SYOSSET UPDATES FROM JOE:
UPDATE 1: Forrest Walter scored unassisted to give John Jay a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Wasn’t White Plains the team to beat Town in 79 ? I think in Ancient times WP was good.
UPDATE 2: John Jay leads 4-2 after one. The Indians led 4-0 before Syosset got back-to-back goals from Jonathan Guzman with Ruan Lukovic assisting on both. Walter has two goals for JJ. Mike Daniello and Drew Beck have also scored.
Great game by both teams @Town today. Both teams showed a lot of composure and gritty, gutsy play. Town D was up to the task as Chaminade won majority of face offs, and controlled most of first half. Nice way for Town to stay focused and come away with a quality win. The flyers goalie kept them in the game with some nice saves. It was the type of game one hates to see anyone loose, but it shows that Town is up to the task of playing teams of the caliber of Chaminade, which they will see down the road! John Ranagan and KI earned their stripes today.
UPDATE 3: John Jay leads 7-4 at the half. The Indians led by as much as 6-2. Guzman and Marc Ochs each have two goals.
This is where Jay has to come out of fire to win this game. They are doing great so far. they can’t let down at all though this is a LI team who can play. Watch out for adjustments.
UPDATE 4: Syosset has pulled within 7-6 early in the third quarter on back-to-back goals by Guzman. We have a brand new ball game.
UPDATE 5: Joe reports that an apparent game tying goal by Syosset has been waved off by official Chuck Cohen, who ruled the ball was kicked into the net.
UPDATE 6: Walter’s fourth goal gives JJ an 8-6. Moments later freshman Ryan Hunter answers for the Braves. JJ leads 8-7 with four minutes left in the third quarter.
UPDATE 7: Beck”s third goal of the game gives John Jay a 9-7 lead after three
quarters.
UPDATE 8: Cornell-bound defenseman Thomas Keith of Syosset has left the game with a shoulder injury.
UPDATE 9: Guzman’s fifth goal pulls Syosset within 9-8 with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
See, I don’t like this …
UPDATE 10: Syosset’s Keith has returned to the field.
UPDATE 11: Ochs’ third goals pulls Syosset within 10-9 with 4:38 to go in regulation. Don’t ask me where Jay’s 10th goal came from.
UPDATE 12: Lukavic scores unassisted with 2:37 to go. It’s tied at 10-10.
Indian J — pass the Pepto…
Come on …
… I finished the Pepto
UPDATE 13: We’re tied 10-10 going into OT. We will have video highlights of both this game and Yorktown-Chaminade.
FINAL: John Jay 11, Syosset 10 in OT. Mike Daniello’s third goal of the game, unassisted off a set play, gives the Indians the win.
YES !!!
JJ won the opening faceoff of OT and immediately called timeout, setting up Daniello’s winning goal.
Joe and Ryan are now conducting post-game interviews with players from both teams. Check back for those interviews as well as video highlights from both the Chaminade-Yorktown and Syosset-John Jay games, including the tying and winning goals in both games.
Be sure to tip your waitress …
Great job with the updates Syracuse !
congrats JJ nice job way to go!!!!!!
Forget Syosset’s record. This is a very good win for John Jay all things considered … Congrats to Indian J, LAX, Doid and all the other crazies out there …
Just got home – great game tonight. I agree with Syracuse, this is a big win for these kids and a nice confidence booster heading into the end of the regular season. I am exhausted, that was a stressful ending!
Ok I’ve set up a new caching system. Would love to hear your feedback on site speed etc.
Please post feedback here or e-mail me at jordan@laxlessons.com.
Jordan Rabidou, ladies and gentleman, live from the Emperor’s Suite at Caesar’s Palace!
Jordan and Syracuse –
While Ryan and I were busy going from one OT classic to another, I just want you both to know your tireless efforts today and tonight back at the office have not gone unnoticed. I know I speak for all our readers in saluting you both.
[…] Your source for Saturday scores May 09 Email This […]
Great win for John Jay Congratulations!
Guys, Thanks for all of the updates and the upcoming video, very cool.
Big win for both Town and Jay, but also Section 1. Was starting to feel the group slipping after some stumbles, but at least we’re back to hanging with (and sometimes beating) some strong LI teams. It seemed like Chaminade had really started to peak, so Town beat a team at the top. Good time for Town to start to hit it’s stride again, and Jay/ Somers should be an interesting final if they both get there.
[…] Saturday’s scores and highlights […]
Indian J is correct WP won Sec in 1979, and beat Town
White Plains beat Town in the sectional finals????
Get out. I’m sorry but I don’t believe you.
