John Jay has won four straight Class B Section 1 championships.
But having lost three all-Americans and with a sophomore filled with 13 sophomores, many seem to feel the Indians’ dynasty is in seriously danger.
Those who do invariably point to Somers as the team that could well dethrone the Tuskers.
Now, hold on. There may be another heir to the throne.
Meet the Horace Greeley Quakers.
Greeley, guided by first-year coach and former Yorktown ‘Husker Vin DeGregorio, is off to a 2-0 start, including a 14-8 win over 2008 sectional finalist Brewster. The Quakers, in fact, beat Brewster by one goal more than John Jay did. (The Indians beat the Bears 11-6 last Thursday.)
Today, Greeley looks to improve to 3-0 as it plays at Fordham Prep at 4:30 p.m. The Rams are 2-1, with the lone loss to Mahopac. Speaking of the ‘Pac, they have an intriguing non-section game at home at 1 p.m. vs. traditional Long Island power Northport.
Prediction: Greeley 9, Fordham Prep 7
In other Section 1 vs. Section 1 action:
Prediction: Eastchester 4, New Rochelle 3
Edgemont visits Bronxville at 4:30 p.m.
Prediction: Bronxville 9, Edgemont 3
In Fairfield:
Prediction: New Canaan 8, Fairfield Ludlowe 6

fordham prep is 2-1,they lost to Mahopac. Any prediction on northport-mahopac?
Pacfan –
Northport is a traditional LI power, but it’s only played one game so far (a 13-3 win over Brentwood), so it’s hard to say. I do know Northport has an outstanding player in the faceoff X Joe Cicio.
I’ll go with Northport, 8-6.
Greeley wins 15-6
Yorktown is now ranked 7th in the country according to insidelacrosse.com
does anyone else’s explorer application hang for 5-10 seconds everytime they navigate in lax lessons? very annoying and I’m wondering if itd just me.
franklyscarlett
kind of slow here as well
slow at lohud as well
I recently began using Mozilla Firefox and it’s noticeably faster for me.
Yeh def. Firefox rocks. Exolorer is so 1990s.
Hey guys I just configured the site a little differently involving some caching. The site should now be considerably faster let me know if you see a difference
I have Explorer – forgive me Laximus, I’m old – and it is much faster. Much appreciated Jordan.
Joe why no coverage of mahopac and northport????????
Greeley won 15-7 looks like Laxman made a pretty good prediction
Hey guys,
I just updated the body copy of this post with some scores from Thursday.
I’m sure Joe will be along later to check in.
‘CUSE
Ripo – As usual ur a fountain of misinformation. There is an artical on Pac-Northport plus video posted on this blog.
In fairness to Ripo, Mahopac-Northport was played very early on Thursday. His comments came in the afternoon and neither the story nor video on the game was published on this site until very late Thursday night …
Who cares Syracuse. Let’s spend our time talking about the big games coming up not petty nonsense.
Observer,
Brother relax. When people get called out on this site I think it’s fair to defend those who deserve defending … you want to read about upcoming games, check out the “Battle of the Sound” preview I just published.
I said it from the start of the season. Greeley lacrosse will be in the runnning with ‘town and somers and rye and who ever else. its looking good
Glax,
Although I agree that Greeley has the makings of a very good team and if it continues to improve, it will be one of the top teams in Section 1, it (nor Rye/Somers) will be “in the running” with Town who’s in a class by themselves.
Also its win over Fordham Prep was a real mismatch to start with very little can be taken from that game as to Greeley’s true ability vs top competition.
Vin DeGregorio is already working wonders at Greeley.
Good for the Quakers.
After Greeley’s next 3 games with Town/Somers/Jay (order?), we’ll obviously have a real good read on just how good they are.
it is town/somers/JJ for their next three games. I think you’ll be surprised, they are going to do well. I wouldnt put your money on those three so quick.
Glax,
I would not be “surprised” but SHOCKED if Greeley beat Town. Times are hard enough so dont throw away your money (on HG) on the Town game.
At this point I think Somers and JJ should be slightly favored over HG but I would NOT be “surprised” if HG were to win both games.
slacrosse was right.
after those 3 games, its fair to say greeley was completely over-rated. greeley sports teams are always over-rated in early season, and then disappoint later on.
section1lacrosse1987,
dont know about HG’s teams being always over-rated but as fr this team it just seemed to me that they had too many skilled players +athletes + coaching to end up giving up SO many goals and not scoring more?
