Happy Monday, gang.
We will be keeping a close eye on the weather this week. Starting today. Rain is supposed to arrive mid-morning and continue through mid-afternoon. Of course, unless there is heavy rain or thunderstorms, lax is usually played (depending on field conditions.) Stay tuned.
For starters, it’s opening week in Connecticut lax. To mark the occasion, our friend Syracuse will be breaking down the top teams in Fairfield throughout the week.
But for today, there is a mega matchup in Long Island:
Shoreham-Wading River at Syosset at 4:30 p.m.
In Section 1:
Briarcliff visits Haldane at 4:30 p.m.
Nanuet hosts Pelham at at 4:30 p.m.
Ardsley at North Salem, 11 a.m.
Mamaroneck at Clarkstown North, 4:30 p.m.
Be sure to post your comments and predictions on these games and check back later today for score updates.
Weather update (2:30 p.m.):
We have reports of two postponements:
Ardsley at North Salem and Mamaroneck at Clarkstown North
Score updates:
Summit has cooled off a red-hot Cold Spring Harbor team, coming away with a 6-5 win.
In another NY vs. NJ contest, Lakeland/Panas beat Montgomery 10-7.
NYC, Section 1, Long Island scores:

What about L/P? Dont they play Mont.NJ today? No respect for the Rebels Joe!
Q –
L/P vs. Mercer Island was one of our games to watch on Saturday. You can’t make it every game. Also, sounds like you missed Syracuse’s report on the Rebels from Saturday. So here’s the link:

Here Rye/Jay game changed to 1:30 tomorrow.
Rye @ JJ 2:00pm
Rye at John Jay game is still on for a 2 p.m. start.
(Just confirmed with JJ coach Nick Savastano.)
So just to recap … Rye at John Jay is at 2 and Somers at Yorktown is at 7 tomorrow.
Similar to Saturday when Yorktown hosted St. A’s at 2 and Manhasset visited JJ at 7, it’s a great opportunity for fans to catch two real good games in one day.
We will preview both games on the “Today’s Top 5/Score updates” thread for Tuesday. Please be sure to post your thoughts and predictions on both games then as well as now.

Bob Rule,
Well said and obviously really important coming from you in a strategy discussion.
Jay, like yours,is a great program and that OT game with you guys I was at a few yrs back was incredible (as was your close win over Jay, last year I think it was).
Good luck the rest of the season. I hope in the playoffs that my team Rye may have the chance to face you guys as they dis in 05. A challenging task to say the least but what an experience for a lacrosse team.

I thought Nick Savatano and his coaches had a perfect game plan. His young kids along with the upper classmen carried it out to a T. It was a smart plan and they almost pulled it off. Anyone remember Princeton/Syracuse for the national title? ….same plan(Princeton won..beat Beardsley & Co.)
Great Job Coaches and Players.Thank you to the Booster Club for their hospitality. A great rivalry that I hope to continue

Manhasset H.S.
Rye 8, John Jay 4 … JJ tries stall ball again but it backfires
Town 16, Somers 4 … Town shuts down JoJo and KI has 10 goals
LaxMaster,
LOL …
Let’s not get crazy now. Yorktown should win the game, but to expect KI to continue this absurd start is asking a lot.
Somers is a nice team. They deserve to be on the field with Yorktown and will score some goals on Tuesday. I just don’t think their defense will have any answer for Town’s offense.
I’m sticking with 14-7 Yorktown.
LaxMaster,
Dont see J using same strategy used vs Town as J and Rye are far more evenly matched–no fear of Rye as a run and gun team.
Cuse,
Dont know if you’ve glanced at Mike’s blog but curious to know how you’ll react to recent “TownLax” comment on Sett being afraid to lose to Town and therefore avoid scheduling them. I disagreed with him.
Slacrosse,
I’d just stay far away from a comment like that. It’s not based in any kind of fact and not worth the agita it would create. I will see Manhasset for myself this Saturday and I’ll decide in my own mind if the hype is warranted.
P.S. … I just updated the body of this post with more scores.
yeah–I’m still exhausted from the “strategy” discussion
Wow…you named 8 schools playing today in your preview but no LP.. no excuse! I can get this at lax to
What about briarcliff!???
Always ignored
Q,
Relax man. Yesterday was a brutal weather day. We’re stunned they even played. We posted the score early yesterday. Is L/P playing today? No. They have a week off and I wrote something about the Rebels just this past weekend.
Exlax,
What about Briarcliff? I wrote a season preview on them, which is a lot more than I can for 95 percent of the teams in our area. It would help if the general public posted thoughts on these teams. That would get the buzz going. We don’t list every game and comment on them. That’s what our “states/scores/schedules” link on the homepage is for.
Laxitive,
It is our intention to make mention of every team, but often it’s difficult to do. The best way to get the debate going about a particular school is to post something about them. We’re doing our best to throw love to as many different schools as possible.
‘Cuse:
Actually, I think we are getting too much coverage, we should do our talking in May, I LOVE it so far.
And you heard it hear first, Soners 9 – Y’town 7
JJ 9 – Rye 7
BBB,
I’m laughing silently right now:
Rye 1, Jay 0 (6 OTs)
Yorktown 14, Somers 7
‘Cuse:
taking the easy way out, be a little more controversial..(teasing)..
also, FYI, if you can believe the wb site, looks like the Bears have scheduled Don Bosco Prep
big bad loss. How bout Malarchuk?
That guy thinks he is all knowing. Big deal. Youth program!
Lew 8 – Marr 6. Jojo day!
