Seth Tierney plans on hanging around Hofstra for a while.

The former associate head coach at Hopkins signed a contract extension to remain as head coach of the Pride through 2014. Tierney took over as Hofstra coach in August 2006 after former Pride coach John Danowski left to take over the Duke program.

One of Tierney’s main priorities with the Pride has been to keep Long Island players close to home.

Freshman midfielder Jeff Froccaro of Port Washington (left) had three goals, including a crucial insurance goal with 2:09 remaining, as eighth-ranked host Princeton edged No. 11 Hofstra 17-14 today.

The game marked the debut of first-year Princeton head coach Chris Bates, (pictured below right) a 1985 John Jay graduate who took over the Princeton program after Tigers legend Bill Tierney left to coach Denver.

Bates, the former Drexel coach, once again matched wits against Hofstra’s Seth Tierney as the two have done during many heated CAA battles the last few years.

Two-time defending NCAA Division I champion Syracuse opened its scrimmage schedule today by beating Hofstra 7-6 and Le Moyne 15-8  at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, marking the collegiate debut of Somers two-time all-American JoJo Marasco.

Former John Jay star Chris Daniello (pictured at left) and fellow attackman Cody Jamieson each had five points in the two scrimmages for SU.

Marasco (pictured at right), a freshman attackman for the Orange, scored the game winner against Hofstra with 2:18 remaining. New Canaan’s Paul Dubas played the fourth quarter in goal for the Orange, making four saves.

Daniello assisted on Syracuse’s first three goals as it jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Le Moyne. Daniello also scored a goal against Le Moyne. Marasco had an assist.

In the other scrimmage of the day, Hofstra beat Le Moyne 12-6. Former Yorktown all-American Tom Interlicchio scored a goal for Hofstra, giving the Pride a 5-2 lead early in the second quarter.

Syracuse has one remaining scrimmage — at noon on Friday, Feb. 12 — against Maryland at the Dome.

The Horace Greeley Quakers are known for their defense.

And for good reason. With a starting close unit of seniors Derek Katchis, Ben Litwak and Jake Jessup and long pole Hunter Bastian, the Quakers are pretty stingy in the backline.

But Greeley has some good offensive weapons too. Among them — senior attackman Jordan Fried.
