John Ranagan will never forget the feeling.
No matter how hard he may try.
It was two years ago and Ranagan and the Yorktown ‘Huskers had just suffered a crushing 10-9 loss at Lakeland/Panas. It ended a string of 12 straight Yorktown wins in the Charlie Murphy Cup game.
“I wanted to make sure I never felt that way again,” said Ranagan.
Tonight, Ranagan made sure of it. He had five goals and one assist as the ‘Huskers held on for an 11-8 win over the visiting Rebels before a crowd estimated at more than 2,000.

The Yorktown ‘Huskers have failed to win a Section 1 championship just twice since 1980.
One of those years was 1997 when a Lakeland/Panas player named Jim Lindsay scored four goals in a 7-4 Rebels win in the title game at Mahopac High School.
Lindsay, though, never won a Charlie Murphy Cup game vs. Yorktown as a player. Now, as Rebels coach, he and the Rebels are looking to win the Cup for the second time in the last three years.
That’s one of the topics we discussed on Tuesday after the Rebels pulled out a dramatic 13-12 win at John Jay. It was Lindsay’s first career win against John Jay as a coach.
