Junior attackman Brian Coleman of Garden City has committed to Penn.

The Garden City Trojans fell to Sayville in a squeaker last year in the state quarterfinals.

Bronxville standout midfielder Jack Near, who starred this past summer for Prime Time Lacrosse, just called me moments ago from Colorado, where he is enjoying some skiing during winter break, to inform me that he has verbally committed to accept a scholarship offer from Notre Dame.
Near (pictured above in a file photo by Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) was also recruited by Syracuse, Georgetown, Hofstra, Colgate and Brown.

Rye midfielder Jack O’Callaghan, one of the top juniors in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, told me this morning that he has decided on a college after being recruited by many Division I programs.
“I have verbally committed to Coach (Jim) Nagle at Colgate and am looking forward to playing there with Kevin Gordon,” O’Callaghan said.

Meet St. Anthony’s midfielder Joe LoCascio, the 29th-ranked junior in the nation by Inside Lacrosse, who has given a verbal commitment to the University of Maryland.
LoCascio also has the bloodlines. His father played Division I lax, and his uncle is four-time UMass all-America goaltender and former MLL/NLL star Sal LoCascio.

Matt Shannon had his pick of Division I programs.
The junior defenseman from defending FCIAC champion Ridgefield had made unofficial visit to Hofstra, Fairfield, Towson and Syracuse, and was planning on visiting Loyola and possibly Notre Dame as well.
But that all changed last weekend. That’s when the 6-foot-4 Shannon visited North Carolina.
“I loved the campus from the second I arrived,” said Shannon, who has given a verbal commitment to join the Tar Heels as a freshman in 2011-12.

Derek Katchis, one of the top defensemen at the
2008 Empire State Games, will take his skills to Colgate.
Derek Katchis emerged as one of the top defensemen in Section 1 during his career at Horace Greeley, which also included playing on the 2008 Empire State Games.
Now, he’s ready to take his game to the next level.
Katchis, now in the midst of a post-grad year at the Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, informed me late tonight that he has given a verbal commitment to Colgate University.

The reason?
Well, I couldn’t exactly present an “Early fall commitment rundown” until it was actually early fall. (OK, OK, fall won’t officially be arriving till early Tuesday morning, but that’s close enough.)
Now it is.
Hen Hud’s Bobby Sincero also drew recruiting interest from Colgate, Brown, Manhattan, Middlebury, Colby, Nazareth, Washington College, Clark and Lynchburg.
I think I know a trend when I see one, folks.
The commitment of Hen Hud senior goaltender Bobby Sincero to attend Army marks the third Section 1 player from the Class of 2010 that is bound for West Point.

Stephen Burke spent most of last season sidelined with an injury.
So the Yorktown senior had to make up for lost time over the summer in order to land a spot with a collegiate program.
Burke managed to do just that. He has given a verbal commitment to join Division II national champion C.W. Post.
