Former West Islip star Nicky Galasso graces the cover of the recruiting issue of Inside Lacrosse, which will be out on the stands and in mailboxes this week.
It will include national rankings of rising seniors and juniors in high school. It also ranks the top incoming college freshmen. To no one’s surprise, Galasso is No. 1.
And action in the most followed division, Masters, ended just as it did last year with Rusty Red outlasting a “Dream Team” of former Syracuse stars known as the Burnt Orange 14-13 in overtime in the title game.
It’s perhaps the premier lax extravaganza of the calendar year. Men’s and women’s teams of all age groups — from U-15 to Masters — converging on scenic Lake Placid in upstate New York for a week of non-stop lacrosse, better known as the 21st annual Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Classic.
The final game of tonight’s tripleheader has just gone final as the 31-year-old Sound Shore League crowned champions in each of its three adult men’s divisions at Purchase College.
The marquee game of the night, which started at 8:15 p.m., was the Division 1 final. It featured the top players out of John Jay High School the last few years in the form of the top-seeded Prime Time team taking on the best players from Darien High School during that span representing the second-seeded Goose Bar and Grill squad. Prime Time pulled out a 7-6 win.
The Sound Shore League crowned three champions tonight, with three more titles set to be decided on Tuesday. Here’s a rundown of tonight’s championship finals with all games played at Purchase College and Suffern Middle School:
Get ready, gang. It’s time for the Sound Shore League to crown its champions. For the uninitiated, the Sound Shore League includes a 31-year-old men’s league made up of teams from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Fairfield counties, as well as a high school league.
Several players from Long Island and Connecticut were among 96 standouts who competed in the 2010 Champion Boys High School Showcase held this past week in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The players were divided into four teams, two of which, Team Spirit and Team Freedom, met for the championship, with Team Spirit winning 15-12 as West Islip’s Nicky Galasso and Avon Old Farms’ Connor Mooney registering hat tricks.
The championship game will be shown on Sunday at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
Ned Crotty scored on a back-handed shot with 5:46 remaining in the fourth quarter as the United States team outlasted Canada 12-10 today for the championship of the Federation of International Lacrosse World Games in Manchester, England.
The United States will face Canada for the Federation of International Lacrosse World Games championship for the fourth straight time. The teams’ latest battle for the title will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Manchester, England. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
The Sound Shore League, which includes four men’s adult and one high school division of teams from the Hudson Valley/Connecticut region has finalized its championship game schedule.
Five championships will be awarded Aug. 1 and Aug. 2.
The Federation of International Lacrosse World Games are fast approaching, and the U.S. men’s national team that will be competing in Manchester, England July 15-24 has a big test this week leading up to that. A record 30 nations will be competing.
For the Towson-bound Hodgson, the game provided an opportunity to play on his future home college field. Galasso, who became the all-time leading scorer in Long Island history this past season, is headed to North Carolina.
