Congrats to Yorktown rising senior attackman Conor Gately, who has just committed to join coach Joe Amplo’s new program at Marquette.
We have another D-I commitment, gang. Brewster rising senior defenseman Harry Erickson has verballed to Albany. He also was being recruited by UMass and Drexel, among others. Check back for more.
Hey just saw from Joe’s list that Brian Pickup, Rye High (Deerfield PG) has just committed to Princeton.
Congrats to Brian. Real solid kid and great folks. Among the very best 3 sport (football, basketball) athletes to go thru Rye. Only been playing for two seasons and by the time he gets to Princeton in ’12, he will have continued to further develop his already strong abilities and lax IQ.
Congrats to Clarkstown South rising senior goaltender Kris Alleyne, who informed me this morning that he’s given a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship offer from Rutgers. Be sure to check back for more on Kris’ commitment.
Congrats to Yorktown rising senior attackman Frankie Fusco, who has just verbally committed to Drexel and be sure to check back for more on his commitment.
Congrats Frankie. Kid plays with such passion and energy. Good get for Drexel, great lefty shooter. Lot of Section 1 kids there now with Stockel, Trizano, Foley, Collins, ….Maybe more I dont know. Good luck to Frank.
Yo Frankie Congrats glad u made that move Ytown Attack will b the real deal next yr.
Congrats to Manhasset’s Quinn Moroney, who has committed to Amherst.
Chaminade attackman Ryan Lukacovic, one of the nation’s top rising juniors, has just verbally committed to national champion Virginia.
Congrats to Bronxville rising junior attackman Jack Grass has given a verbal commitment to Hopkins. Be sure to check back for Jack’s thoughts on his commitment.

Rising junior middie Matt Prokesch of Eastport-South Manor has committed to Delaware. He also considered Hofstra and UMass. Check back for more.
Way to go Justin!
We have a couple of rising senior commits from Connecticut Class L state champ Ridgefield. Attackman/midfielder Eric Scala has decided on Albany and defenseman Brendan Bossidy will be headed to Williams.
Greeley all-section rising senior attackman Alex Scott has committed to Swarthmore. Scott had 40 goals and 30 assists this past season.
Dobbs Ferry rising senior midfielder John Yozzo-Scaperrotta, who played for Prime Time’s 2012 team this summer, has committed to Brown. The athletic Yozzo-Scaperrotta, who was all-section honorable-mention in lacrosse this past spring, is also a football/basketball standout for Dobbs. Check back for more on this commitment.
Good for him and developing high school program. Assume must have really impressed on Prime time this summer!
Congrats John. Amazing for a kid from a 1 year old varsity team to go D-1!
Chaminade rising junior goalie Danny Fowler of the Long Island Raiders has verbally committed to Duke.
Tom Engelken, Sachem East middie, Class of 2013 commits to Delaware.
monty from lakelandpanas is headed to army
Congratulations are in order, laxer. Lakeland/Panas rising senior middie and faceoff specialist Chris Monteferante has committed to join coach Joe Alberici’s program at Army.
Congrats. Real strong blue-collar player–leaves it ALL on the field.
The BH Bobcats are in need of a new boys head coach, this would be a good time to try to take the program to a new level with a coach outside the program. Many underclassmen stayed around to play on travel summer teams this summer unlike teams/classes in the past so the future looks bright.
Wow the Savastano Brothers should be the first guys called by the Byram athletic director.
Yes. The coach has left the school district and will be no longer coaching or teaching in the district.
Goaltender Brendan Supple of Avon, Conn., who attends Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy, has committed to D-II power Le Moyne.
One other positive draw for a coach to BH is the rabid enthusiasm shown by the kids and parents in support not only of lax but in all sports that I’ve seen BH play.
Midfielder Tom Zenker has become the third member of Chaminade’s Class of 2013 to commit to Duke.

anyone want to speculate on who wins the ACC lax crown, with ‘Cuse moving in?

Just in: Cold Spring Harbor junior midfielder Allen Winkoff has verbally committed to Ohio State.
We have another D-I commit, folks. Arlington junior midfielder Danny Hanson has verballed committed to Albany.
I still don’t get it. How do players commit to go to a college to play a sport before they have applied academically? What if they don’t get in? Don’t academics come into play at all? And once “committed” and accepted, what guarantee is there that they will be on the team? Most coaches over recruit, don’t they? My son was recruited- he’s one of 60 guys going for 45 spots on the roster, and then there are walk-ons hoping for a chance. ???
Yes, every commitment is contingent on acceptance. A commitment is simply a public declaration of the INTENTION to play at a particular school.
I chuckle when some young reporters write about Ivy League commitments being “contingent upon the admission process” as if it’s any different at other schools. It’s not. But during the recruiting process, coaches obtain grade/SAT info and pretty much know if a recruit will be committed.
I guess a good question to ask is when freshmen going into soph year commit. That’s too early to know for sure how the grades will be come admission time. Again, though, a commitment is just that – a commitment by both the player and college, but subject to change before it’s finalized by signing the letter of intent.
Thanks for answering. Not only are the grades of a freshman not known, but how do they know what they want to do? My son completely changed his major and type of school he was interested in after his junior year.
My two cents on recruiting: After a very successful summer recruiting circuit season my son and I sat down and made a list of the 20 schools he might be interested in (geography, size, lax program, majors). We began recruiting the schools, rather than they recruiting him while interest was developing in the coaching circles. The first place we went to was collegeboard.com. We focused on SAT and admissions, in-state out-of-state acceptance rates, tuition, number of students. When a few letters and phone calls from the Tufts and the Browns came in he straight up about SATs and ACTs and grades, and schools like that weren’t on his list of 20 anyway. If they are on your Sophomore or Junior’s list and the SATs are 1200 he needs to reassess from the Ivy’s and top academic D3s. We asked coaches straight up – how many kids dress, how many travel, do you allow walk-ons. On the school lax websites, how many kids at each position, more important for some positions than others. On laxpower.com under boys/recruiting what are the incoming classes looking like ahead of your kid. Are they heavy on middies or attack, what positions are graduating before your son gets there.
We weighed all these things. When the top school on the list said they were already good at that position he followed up with an email to the assistant coach thanking him for being up-front, wishing them luck in the upcoming season – always positive.. Two months later, imagine that, there was de-commit and there he is.
If you can approach it as your son recruiting the colleges and not them recruiting him it is to your advantage. Lastly, don’t go to a school for the coach. What is it like to commit to a school and still have two years to play in high school, who knows what the staff or the program will be like when you get there in 3 years? And who knows how much better (or not) an athlete can become over those seasons. Kudos to those kids who can answer those questions from lacrosse perspective so early – but what about the college and academic perspective, and life after lacrosse.
Senior midfielder Neil Gollogly from defending Connecticut Class L state champion Ridgefield has committed to Siena.

Congrats and good luck to Breen. Assuming he ends up going there in 3 yrs, great school and program.
But there we go again! UVA taking a commitment (albeit only verbal) from a 15 yr old to play for them 3 years from now!!
I dont care what a “verbal” means or doesn’t mean–it’s WRONG on the part of UVA, UNC, etc to take, encourage ANY type of commitment from these young kids–leave them alone!!
UVA, UNC, etc don’t need to try and “lock-up” 15 yr olds. They already have an embarrassment of incoming talent from pools of Juniors,Seniors, transfers, post-grad, etc. At UNC for example Gallasso and their large “stable” of AA’s already on the team (with some ending up not playing or much) are not enough: This season they’ll also have great player transfer Emala from Georgetown and 5th yr great player McBride from Princeton!!
The NCAA needs to act and ban ANY type of recruiting for at least Sophomores. Of course the schools could take unilateral action and stop on their own—–nah—nah—that’s not gonna happen–they’re worried their programs would fall apart if they couldn’t get “verbals” from 15 yr olds.
completely agree with you, 100 percent. its a distraction and nothing but a reason to become complacent. I’m currently playing college lacrosse and I worked incredibly hard in order to play at the level I’m at… and for my year I was considered relatively early when i committed at the beginning of august going into my senior year. I didn’t even know what I really wanted with school when I started my sophomore year. There is no way that committing to a school when you are so young is good for anyone.
how do you stay so informed of where players are going while you’re at school?

Congrats to all the Ridgefield commits and to Sam for his choice of Princeton. Sam you da man!
What awesome news!!! Congrats Austin!
Syracuse’s gain is Maryland’s loss. Congrats to Austin and Yorktown.
Would be interesting to know how Michigan discovered a kid from New Hampshire. … Not exactly a lax hotbed – and wonder what travel team or summer tournaments the kid could have played on/in to get that kind of notice.
WOW. This is awesome news. When was the last time – if ever – Hen Hud had two major D-I recruits. Congrats Eddie and Hen Hud.
Can Hen Hud possibly be the favorite to win the sectional title now that they will be playing in Class C this season?
Congrats Eddie! Job well done! There is still more D1 quality talent on this squad including junior attackman Kevin McDermott and junior LSM/D Joe Fraietta, and several returning seniors. Go Sailors!
Absolutely right. Fraietta will be scooped up soon and McDermott has got to be on on someone’s radar. He’s going to score a ton of goals for some D-1 program. A hidden gem at this point.
Great for these kids, Suffern and Section 1
SORRY!!! Meant Hen Hud!!!
Both Gilman and Ledwin (Hop) played for SuperStar which has been churning out D-1 recruits like no other travel team in the tristate of late.
Roy Colsey has put together a great program. Terrific coaches, good kids, and, surprise, a nice bunch of lax parents.
Yeh Eddie you beast. Congratsss big dog
Wow – big news in Section 1 the last week with Fusco/Manning/Gilman commitments.
Joe, Yorktown has a number of college commitments thus far. Have you ever seen so many commitments on one team like this?
Yorktown, with 14 college commits, is very impressive, laxer932. But there are two teams in the tristate area right now with a few more: St. Anthony’s (21), Chaminade (18) and Garden City (15).
You can get the team-by-team breakdown on our “Update recruiting review and commitment rundown” file.
C’mon now Westchester laxer932. You should have thought to look at programs like GC, Nade and St A’s before touting Yorktown’s # of college recruits as the highest ever.
Two other Trinity Pawling jr. middies from Ontario — Bryce Jurk and Julian Garritano — are also D-I bound. They’ve committed to Sacred Heart.
Joe’s Twitter has been getting quite a workout the last few weeks with all these sophomore commitments. Love getting the news there first then coming here to find out more in depth info.
There really has been a boom in Canadian players with great stick skills from box lacrosse coming to US prep schools and landing D-I scholarships. Interesting trend for sure.,
Used to be vey rare to see commitments made this time of year, just prior to season starting. No more.
Sean has good athleticism and a good shot and will only continue to improve. Great “get” for Coach Nelson.
at a boy kiven
