Glenn D. Loucks Stadium, which has been a big hit as host site of the Section 1 championship tripleheader the last two years, will be the venue for the downstate New York semifinals this year, matching the Long Island champ versus the Section 1/2/9 representative.

Once today’s games are done, plenty of players, fans and coaches will be looking forward to wait lies ahead — the sectional or  conference (depending on whether we’re talking about NY or CT) and state playoffs.

As far as New York State goes, the so-called downstate state semifinal featuring either the Section 1, 2 or 9 champ vs. either the Section 8 or 11 (or Long Island) champ. Traditionally, those games have been held at Hofstra University in Hempstead.

Not this year.

White Plains High School’s Glenn D. Loucks Stadium will  be the venue.

And that’s not the only change.

The state semis, traditionally played on a Thursday, will now be held as a Wednesday tripleheader. In this case, that Wednesday is June 8. This will allow the winning teams more time to prepare and then travel to the state finals, set for Saturday, June 11 at Cicero North Syracuse High School in Syracuse.

While White Plains has been the site of the Section 1 finals the last two years, that will not be the case this season.

The sectional finals, set for Thursday, May 26, will be held this year at Suffern Middle School, which hosted the finals in 2007. The order of the games will be Class A at 3 p.m., Class B at 5:30 p.m. and Class C at 8 p.m.

That will be the same order for the subsequent state tournament rounds, including the intersectional games at Middletown High School between the Section 1 and Section 9 winners on Wednesday, June 1, and the state quarterfinals on Saturday, June 4 at a site in the Albany area between the Section 1/9 winners and the Section 2 class champs.

The ultimate compliment is that any team in any class would consider it a notch in their belt to beat Bronxville this season and would not take them lightly. I would not be too high on them easily running the Class C table but I also would not bury them after 1 close loss either. There were some other factors that led to the Mamo loss but that’s no excuse because Mamo played a great game and deserved the big win. Over a long season every team has some games where for various reasons they were not at their best but they have to play them all anyway and mamo has also had it’s share of adversity and bad breaks. I think both teams wil be very solid come the playoffs.

I totally agree with you. Bronxville’s talent this year and in up and coming years will lead them to become a top tier program in the section. They are also one of the smallest schools in the section itself. Both Mamo and Scarsdale have both been kept alive because of their great goalies who have made huge impacts.

Question about Sect 1 playoffs? Are the requirements for making the playoffs the same as last year?
