Much of the preseason chatter involving Section 1 Class B has centered on defending champion John Jay, 2009 champion Somers and the two new additions to the class: Yorktown and Rye.
But there are several others teams that certainly bear watching. We’ve been taking a look at a few the last couple of weeks.

For more on the Quakers, let’s get the insights of defenseman Brian Dubs, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound defenseman who is headed to Hamilton College.
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
As a team, we have been working out two to three times a week. We also have been playing in the Brewster Sports Dome on Wednesday nights.
How does your schedule look, including scrimmages, and what games are you looking forward to?
I am really looking forward to the Staples game. It’s great to see some competition outside of Section 1, and I got to play with a lot of Staples guys this summer so I know they will be an excellent team.
What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
We are going to have a lot of standouts on the team this year. In goal, Gabe Weissmann is fearless and runs the defense extremely well. Joe Hinderstein, at long pole, has the speed, stick skills and aggression to help lead the defense and get the ball back to our offense. Josh Begleiter had an amazing season last year on faceoffs and should continue to dominate this season. Our returning junior attackman, Jack Gladstone, had an amazing season last year and has been getting better and better ever since. We also have a lot of sophomores working out and playing with us, and they have been doing great and turning a lot of heads.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
We have a lot of sophomores and juniors who are constantly working to get better and who are excited to get out and play. Their commitment to the team is going to make a huge difference this season, especially since we have so few seniors.
How do you view the race in Section 1 and who do you think the contending teams will be?
Our league is going to be extremely competitive. We had some very close games with all four teams last season, and this season looks like it will be more of the same. With all the new teams in Class B, I think there will be a lot of excitement come playoff time. Anything can happen.
