Fall 2014 Signing Week coverage
These days, freshmen making verbal commitments to major Division I lacrosse programs is hardly rare.
JP Lannig of Syosset HS (NY) joined that group on Friday when he verballed to the University of Michigan, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
But the attackman did accomplishment a rarity this past spring when he joined Syosset’s varsity team as an eighth-grader.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound Lannig, a righty, is a shifty playmaker who has outstanding field vision, is an adept dodger, sees the field well and has a quick first step. He is shown here on his recruiting visit to Michigan.
Lannig is Michigan head coach John Paul’s second 2018 verbal for the tristate hotspot, joining Irondequoit (NY) midfielder John Lombardi.
Athletic success runs in the Lannig family.
Lannig’s sister, Morgan, senior captain and leading scorer (with 56 points) for Syosset’s girls team, accepted a lacrosse scholarship from to LIU Post. She will be receiving the outstanding female physical education award for Syosset this Tuesday in an award ceremony at Crest Hollow County Club presented by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
