Ryan Bray’s best lacrosse is clearly ahead of him.
Which is not to say he hasn’t accomplished a lot already.
Only a sophomore, Bray is an attackman for defending New York State Class C champion Shoreham-Wading River, who was named Suffolk County Rookie of the Year last year.
The 5-foot-11, 150-pound Bray still has three more varsity seasons remaining with the Wildcats.
After that, it will be on to Ohio State.
Bray, who can also play midfield, has given a verbal commitment to the Buckeyes after being heavily recruited by several of the top programs in the nation.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Ryan on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The main factor in my decision was where I would want to go to school as a non-athlete. I want to be able to enjoy my college experience outside of being a lacrosse player. Also, the atmosphere and the coaches came into play strongly.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was able to visit Hopkins, Maryland, Yale and Georgetown. I also considered Villanova, Rutgers, Duke, Harvard and Syracuse.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think my strength as a player is my lacrosse IQ. I try to use that to outsmart my defenseman. My style of play is very aggressive. I try to make myself out to be a tough player on the field.
Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
The biggest influences I have had have been my coach Tom Rotanz, he has helped my game develop so much throughout the years along with (Assistant) Coach (Gene) Gersbeck. Also my parents’ support helped a lot.
What travel team did you play on this past summer and what were some of the showcase events you competed in?
I played on the SWR travel. I also played in the Rising Sophomore LI Showcase.
