The Division I fall signing week gets under way on Wednesday and lasts until Nov. 17.

During that time, the many seniors whose commitments we have reported on the last year or more will make those commitments binding by signing National Letters of Intent.

Meanwhile, plenty of other seniors who have not yet verbally committed are finalizing their plans at all levels of collegiate lacrosse.

Among them, Trevor Caviola, a senior who becomes the latest John Jay defender to decide on Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.

Former John Jay defensive standout Bobby Crossett is a senior defenseman for the Gulls, the defending Commonwealth Coast Conference champions.

Long-stick midfielder Tom Mertens, a classmate of Caviola’s at John Jay, is also headed to Endicott.

The decision of the 5-9, 175-pound Caviola now gives John Jay 10 seniors who are committed to continue their careers at college programs. (Scroll down to see the complete list with links to each of the stories on their respective commitments.)

Here’s a Q&A with Trevor on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Endicott?
The size of the school was exactly what I was looking for and I wanted a college that I could balance academics and lacrosse.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Limestone College and visited Stevens, Springfield, Western New England, Cortland and Ithaca.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I will have to work harder on my strength, foot work and speed.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I have good stick skills and I am a physical player to offset my lack of height.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I have looked up to two players growing up playing lacrosse: Ryder Bohlander and Nick Daniello.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
I realized I could play at the college level when I was a sophomore and getting a lot of playing time I realized I had what it takes.

I feel that it is not a good idea for Endicott to take in 3 john jay players they should try to expand to get other players that have not played together before to push them to their full potential…besides Caviola and Mertens is all they need

  8. rolax says:

Winter did not apply. Haven’t heard anything else
