What’s better than a big inter-sectional Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut lacrosse showdown on a sunny Saturday?

How about three of them.

All at the same site.

That will be the scenario today at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, which is the proud host of the “Lead the Way Lacrosse Day of Heroes.”

Here’s the lineup:

* New Canaan vs. St. Anthony’s, noon: St. Anthony’s has not quite lived up to early season, No. 2 national ranking, having lost to Chaminade 14-8, but the Friars are traditionally a team that improves as the season goes on. New Canaan

* Yorktown vs. Chaminade, 2 p.m.: Yorktown pulled out a 9-8 win against Chaminade last year, but the Flyers check in at No. 16 in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse National Rankings while the Huskers have had what has so far been an up-and-down season.

* Darien vs. Manhasset, 4 p.m.: Unranked in the preseason, defending Class C state champion Manhasset has soared to the No. 4 spot in the latest national rankings. Darien, which lost a week ago to Conestoga (Pa.),  fell to Manhasset 14-13 last year.

The event was launched as a tribute to the memory of former Chaminade and Duke University standout Jimmy Regan, an Army sergeant who died in 2007 while on combat patrol in Iraq.

MSG Network will be airing all three games on Sunday at the following times: 8 a.m.  (New Canaan vs. St. Anthony’s); 10 a.m. (Yorktown vs. Chaminade); and noon (Manhasset vs. Darien).

In another intriguing inter-state battle, the red-hot Mountain Lakes Lakers of New Jersey host Shoreham-Wading River at noon. In yet another, Rye hosts New Fairfield at 6 p.m. at Nugent Stadium.

There are also a couple of intriguing Putnam vs. Suffolk  intersectional games.

Mahopac, which has a win over Somers and a loss to Yorktown most recently on its resume, plays at Northport at 1 p.m. Northport, guided by former Yorktown head coach George Searing, is 3-5, but those losses have been to Manhasset, East Islip, Walt Whitman, Connetquot and Smithtown East. The loss to East Islip (8-1) was 11-7. Mahopac fell to East Islip 14-13.

At 1 p.m., Brewster host Hauppauge. The Eagles are 7-1 with the loss against unbeaten Comsewogue.

Inter-state rivals John Jay and Corning East will meet for the fourth straight year. After John Jay won the first two meetings in the season, the Trojans, who have advanced to the Class C state final two times in the last three years, defeated the Indians 11-4 last season after John Jay beat Corning East 8-7 in 2007 and 16-11 in ’08. Game-time is noon in Cross River. John Jay checks in at No. 15 in the latest national rankings and No. 9 in Class B in the latest state rankings. Corning East is the state’s No. 4-ranked Class C team.

Horace Greeley has a big inter-state game of its own today as the Quakers face Guilderland at 3 p.m. at the University at Albany. The Dutchmen are 5-2 with the losses coming against Mercer Island (Wash.) and Shenendehowa.

Also today on Long Island, the Connetquot Thunderbirds, coming off their first loss of the season (10-7 vs. Ward Melville), host West Babylon at 11 a.m. Also at 11 .am., Port Washington visits Baldwin.

At 10 a.m., Seaford hosts North Shore, Mineola is at Floral Park, Oceanside visits Hicksville, Uniondale hosts East Meadow and Plainview is at Herricks.

Port Washington plays at Baldwin at 11 a.m. At noon, Tappan Zee visits Sewanhaka in a Rockland vs. Nassau battle. Cold Spring Harbor plays at Clarke at 1 p.m.

In Connecticut, unbeaten Weston (6-0) faces Guilford at Guilford’s Kavanaugh Field at noon. Also at 12 p.m., another 6-0 team, Staples, plays at Stamford.

At 1 p.m., St. Joseph-Trumbull hosts winless Trinity Catholic and Danbury visits Norwalk.

In Section 1, Somers, which has won back-to-back games after a 1-4 start, hosts Lakeland/Panas at 5:30 p.m. in a rematch of a game last year won by Somers 10-9. Adding spice to the matchup is the fact that second-year Somers coach Lew Janavey was a longtime assistant at Lakeland/Panas. As we told you Thursday night, it’s also the inaugural “Communities Collide Benefiting Autism Speaks.” Autism Speaks is a group dedicated to raising awareness of Autism as well as funding research.

(A quick note about next week’s schedule: the Yorktown at Somers game, originally scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Somers, will now be played Monday at 7 p.m. at Somers.)

Also in Section 1 today, defending Class C sectional champ Put Valley, coming off back-to-back losses to Yorktown and Lakeland/Panas, hosts Fox Lane at 1 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., Irvington plays at Scarsdale.

Nauet visits Albertus Magnus, Byram Hills hosts Harrison, North Salem hosts Croton and Peekskill plays at Hastings at 11 a.m. At 10 a.m., White Plains visits Ardsley and North Rockland hosts Ossining.

Also this morning, Arlington takes on the Albany Academy.

It should be quite a day. By the time it’s over, we may have a better idea just who the best team in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region is. Speaking of which, gang, be sure to check out our brand new poll question and exercise your right to vote.

We’ve talked a lot about some of the great stories that have occurred this lax season. None, though, has been any better — or more impressive — than the tremendous job you folks have done weighing in with your insights and score updates each and every day. An amazing accomplishment considering this blog has been around for all of one year. Kudos to you!

So let’s make this yet another week — and weekend — to remember. Be sure to post your thoughts and predictions on these matchups as well as any info on the scores and game details.

What do you think about the pac/northport game? And what are your thoughts on the Indians in general?

  2. Lax Novice says:

From the Good Omen Department, JV division:

At Manhasset HS, Darien 5, Manhasset 4.

I’m looking for New Canaan, Chaminade and Darien to prevail today, the event should be awesome. Please don’t forget that everyone’s support of the Lead The Way Fund is what is most important on this day. Go to leadthewayfund.org. for details.

Good luck to all teams today.

  3. laxnoz says:

Somers on a roll will follow a great day for charity with a win aganist L/P final score Somers 10 L/P 8

  4. Lax4Fun says:

    Joe,

How do you think Town will fair against the flyers today.? Do they finally get a win against a ranked team? They looked solisd against Pac but Chaminade is no Pac. It seems to me they have to control faceoffs and the clock. and K.I. has to come up big. Ofcourse D.K. will have to be strong in goal.

  5. gojayr94 says:

Yorktown will pull out a 9-8 winniner…Interlicchio hits the game winner in OT for the second straight year…

  6. Joe Lombardi says:

    Lax4Fun –

You hit on some key areas that Yorktown will have to do to stay in the game. Additionally, they will need to prevent Princeton-bound attackman Will Himler from having a big game. But even if they are successful at that end, the Flyers have two potent attack complements in Matt Gillan and Matt Kavanaugh. I think Chaminade’s offensive depth will be a big factor. So too will its defensive combo of Maryland-bound Mike Ehrhardt and Georgetown-bound John Urbank. They will make it very tough for the Huskers to get many high-percentage shots against.

  7. Joe Lombardi says:

Hey gang, just wanted to give everyone a head’s up that the Yorktown at Somers game, originally scheduled for Tuesday at 7 at Somers, will now be played Monday at 7 at Somers.

  8. laxified says:

From the bad news department. Chaminade JV 14 Set 2

  9. laxified says:

Great day and better cause. Heading out in a little bit

  10. WhaleBelt says:

all the good young ‘Set players on are on varsity!

  11. LI Lax says:

For those of you Pac fans on here…and I know there are many…I should be getting updates from Northport this afternoon.

  12. LacrosseInsider says:

Should be a long day for Town today, Cham has to be a 5 goal favorite.

  13. laxrat says:

Does anyone have an update on the jj game?

  14. Lax Novice says:

Chaminade could have used some of those JV guys in the varsity game, sounds like. For the record, Manhasset has lots of good young players on their JV.

    Good Omen Department, Part Two:

Saw Carrie Miller this morning, wife of the late Garrison Miller, one of the founders of the Battle of the Sound, the original series matching up New Canaan and Darien with Garden City and Manhasset. The lady is looking great, her husband should be smiling from high above on this beautiful lacrosse day.

  16. laxflow says:

Arlington is leading Albany Academy 7-3 at the half

  17. Joe Lombardi says:

Chris Kieser reports that Mahopac leads Northport 3-2 in the first quarter.

  18. Joe Lombardi says:

Princeton-bound senior midfielder Tom Schreiber just scored his fifth goal for St. Anthony’s. The Friars lead New Canaan 13-5 with time winding down.

  19. LI Guy says:

    East Meadow 17, Uniondale 2

  20. Joe Lombardi says:

Mahopac and Northport are tied 6-6 with four minutes left in the second quarter,

  21. Benlaxman says:

  22. Score says:

PAC northport tied at half 6-6

  23. Sec1 says:

St Anthony 13 NC 8 Final

  24. Joe Lombardi says:

    Mahopac 6, Northport 6/HT

  25. LacrosseInsider says:

    Jay won 6-5 in OT!

  26. LacrosseInsider says:

I believe Jay was up by 3 at the half, CE game back strong and tied it in the fourth. A lot of sloppy play by Jay late in the game, threw the ball away several times, especially on clears. I believe Jake Weil won it on a man up goal in OT but I could be wrong……Nice classy game by both teams.

  27. Just sayin says:

    Joe,

Great pick going with JJ over Corning on MSG. I think you had the St. A’s-NC score exactly right to!!!

  28. Score says:

Northport 8 Pac 7 at end of 3rd

  29. Joe Lombardi says:

Chaminade has jumped out to a 1-0 lead vs. Yorktown.

  30. Laximus says:

Joe may have seen it coming but that’s what makes Joe well Joe. It seems like every pick I saw had Corning East winning. This is a huge prestigious much needed out of region win for Section One. Now let’s see if Yorktown can pull its weight vs. Chaminade.

  31. Joe Lombardi says:

After Chaminade went ahead 2-0 on a goal by Will Himler, Kevin Interlicchio scored for Yorktown to cut the lead in half.

  32. Joe Lombardi says:

Northport has gone ahead of Mahopac 10-8 with seven minutes remaining in regulation.

  33. laxo says:

    2 1 cham

  34. laxo says:

    3 2 cham

  35. laxo says:

    3 2 chaminade

  36. Joe Lombardi says:

Chaminade leads 3-2 late in the first quarter. Nick Mariano just scored in transition off a feed from senior Remy Lieberman. Freshman Trevor Koelsch made a nice hit to start the play for Yorktown. We can call Mariano/Koelsch the “Freshman Connection.”

The Flyers had gone ahead 3-1 on a goal by midfielder Shane Thornton.

  37. Joe Lombardi says:

    Chaminade 3, Yorktown 2 after 1.

The Flyers have won five of six faceoffs.

  38. Joe Lombardi says:

Final: Mahopac 13, Northport 10. The ‘Pac rallied back from a two-goal deficit midway through the second quarter. Another big non-section win for the Hudson Valley region.

  39. Joe Lombardi says:

Yorktown has tied it at 3-3 early in the second on a goal by Interlicchio off a feed from Mariano.

  40. laxo says:

    town d middies doing work

  41. Joe Lombardi says:

The Huskers have taken their first lead. It’s 4-3 on a goal by Interlicchio, with Mariano again assisting.

  42. Joe Lombardi says:

Midfielder Eric McLee scores to make it 5-3 off a Justin Mabus feed.

Yorktown has a lead despite the fact Brendan Fowler and Chaminade have won seven of eight faceoffs.

  43. laxflow says:

    arlington 14 Albany Academy 6

  44. GreenWhite says:

Senior Steve Burke and juniors Alex Poritzky and Alex Terry have played great on D and at D-mid for Town causing lots of TOs. Along with Koelsch’s play in goal huge factors in overcoming FO discrepancy.

  45. Joe Lombardi says:

Joey Porcelli gets in on the act. The senior middie scores unassisted off a turnover and Yorktown has build a surprising 7-3 lead. Frankie Fusco had scored to put Ytown up 6-3.

  46. Joe Lombardi says:

Derek Koelsch, who had a big first half, makes a nice save just before the second quarter ends.

    Halftime: Yorktown 7, Chaminade 3

We’ll see if John FANagan’s pick of a one-goal Yorktown win holds true.

  47. LacrosseInsider says:

Wow! And I was giving Town 5 goals…..way to go Green & White! Keep it up in the 2nd half!

  48. Score says:

    PAC 13 Northport 10 Final

  49. Sec1 says:

    Town 8-3 in 3rd

  50. Joe Lombardi says:

Interlicchio scores as Yorktown widens the lead to 9-3 right after sophomore Conor Gately scored a man-down goal off a feed from McLee.

  51. Joe Lombardi says:

Yorktown leads 9-4 after three quarters.

  52. Sec1 says:

    Town 11-5 in 4th 4:12 left

  53. Joe Lombardi says:

Ty Schuldt makes it 11-5 Yorktown midway through the third. Chaminade has continued to dominate FOs. The count now is 13 of 16.

  54. Joe Lombardi says:

Will Himler scores a behind-the-back goal to pull the Flyers within 11-7 with three minutes left. Stay tuned.

  55. Joe Lombardi says:

Fasten your seatbelts, gang. Just like that it’s 11-9 with 55 seconds left.

  56. LoveTownLax says:

Way to go Boys!!!! LTL is so proud of you!

  57. Joe Lombardi says:

    Final: Yorktown 11, Chaminade 9.

The Huskers hold on after building a six-goal second-half lead for a huge win against the Flyers, whose only losses have come against West Islip and Manhasset.

Yorktown lost 16 of 20 faceoffs, but strong play by senior goalie Derek Koelsch, an inspired defensive effort and opportunistic offense are enough to get the Huskers their third straight win against the Flyers.

The Huskers play at Somers on Monday at 7 p.m. Chaminade plays at Monsignor Farrell on Tuesday.

  58. WhaleBelt says:

nice win ‘Town! For dinner i will be eating my words.

  59. Sec1 says:

Town 11-9 Final, not that close

  60. laxman says:

that’s 3 in a row against chaminade and 2 in a row on the island

  61. CT Lax says:

Couldn’t make it out today. Any updates on Darien-Manhasset game by anyone at the game would be appreciated, including Yorktown/Chaminade fans who may stay to watch some/all of it.

  62. Doid23 says:

Big win for J over CE, HUGE win for Town, and good to see Pac take home a win against Northport. Maybe Section 1 isn’t dead after all, looks like there are signs of life out there. Well done boys.

  63. 22 says:

    Scarsdale beat Irvington 17 – 7

  64. bung899 says:

GREAT GREAT day for the Huskers of Yorktown….Playeed finally like a TEAM and really gave it to Chaminade…Interlicchio looked great leading his team passed a very talented Chaminade defense…Koelsh was outstanding….LETS GO TOWN!!!

  69. laxified says:

  70. just a fan says:

Yorktown starting to play like a team, but the face off situation needs to be addressed. Way to step up KI. Great win for the Huskers.

  71. Joe Lombardi says:

  77. tweet823 says:

Chaminade could not contain Interlicchio as he really showed why he is the #2 attackman in the country (behind WI Gallasso)….Yorktown was in control the entire game..Face offs were an issue but their goalie Kelsh (?) was outstanding…Nice win for Section 1

  78. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers and LP are tied 4-4 after one.

  79. Laxer says:

  88. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers leads 10-9 after three. Emanuel now has five goals.

  89. LI Lax says:

I think there are some guys in the MIAA who might challenge that assertion…Wells Stanwick-BL, Pat Powderly and Jeff Fountain-St. Paul’s…etc…, And even some guys in the region that have some decent arguments (Brandon Mangan scored more goals against GC than the entire Yorktown team, for example)

  90. O_Boy says:

    Ossining 12 North Rockland 3

  91. ytownfan8 says:

Town had great defense today on the powerful fryers and set up their strong offense, very hard to beat the dmiddies, looks like there starting to come around

  92. Longtimesec1fan says:

Watch out for Mamaroneck this year!

  93. Ryesportsfan says:

I agree, Mamaroneck looks real strong in their opening. I predict Mamk YTown sectional final.

  94. John FANagan says:

Yorktown wins three in a row in annual competition in Chaminade. And that’s four out of the last six.

Yorktown played great defense today. How else could they win when they lost the faceoff battle 16-4? Great work by oritzky keeping their much bigger players in front of him at all times. Was very impressed by freshman Trevor Koelsch (and brother of senior goaltender, Derek). He made some key stops on the ball and he has a bright future ahead of him. On the other side of the family tree, not enough can be said about the big stops Koelsch made in the clutch, disallowing the Flyers to complete the comeback.

The much smaller ‘Town team kept themselves in the game with quick feet and forced turnovers- and that’s how they kept possession of the ball.

In the midfield, great hustle plays were made by Mabus. McLee’s speed caused some trouble for Chaminade’s D-I and big defense. The midfield did a good job of drawing defenders away from the attack and then finding the open man.

Town had players step up and that played an integral role in their win. With contributions from Fusco, Mariano and Gately, KI had help along the way.

The win was branded with Interlicchio’s performance as he caused too much trouble for the bigger Chaminade team. Mariano and Lieberman each contributed some big-time goals at attack, and Schuldt’s goal from 15 yards out was truly a backbreaker.

16-4 in the faceoff circle really wasn’t what it seemed to be. Yorktown’s Sullivan used his strength to prevent the Flyers from getting quick goals right out of the faceoff circle. Nonetheless, the FO issue should be addressed because it will be key in close games down the stretch and can win the Huskers some big games if they get their faceoffs down.

Yorktown has a huge week coming up with Somers on Monday night, Arlington on Thursday night, and the biggest game of the regular season- The Murphy Cup on Saturday. Hopefully the boys can keep up their great play into this week and into the latter end of the season!

  95. s1wss says:

Mariano is getting off to a good start on what should be a bright few years for ‘Town

  96. Joe Lombardi says:

    Final: Somers 13-11

  97. Iheartlax says:

Section finals will have Pac town or l/p. Not mamaroneck

  98. Syracuse says:

Now THAT was a nice win for Yorktown, all things considered. Same thing with Jay and Pac.

I read before someone called Interlicchio the second best attackman in the country. You mean Section 1, right?

  99. Qlax says:

Greeley 12 Guilderland 11 Final…Alex Cohen with a game winner with 4 seconds left after being down by 1 with under a minute left in the game

  100. laxified says:

A few thoughts from the day at St Ants. Wondering where the Chaminade team that I saw play WI, St Ants and Set went. They were uninspired and unprepared today. The Town goalie and KI were good, especially the goalie. St Ants will be very tough for Cham the next time. Manhasset is strong at every position and looks to be about as mentally and physically tough as a team can be. Great defense and great team defense. Belinsky might be underrated. Darien is the real deal. Tough, well coached and maybe the best goalie I have seen this year. Oh yeah, how did Town ever lose to JJ ?

  101. TownLaxer says:

    Laxifield,

Oh yeah, how did Town ever lose to JJ ? The JJ D-man completely shut down KI, something few others have been able to do all year including the studs from Cham.

  102. Syracuse says:

    Laxified, TownLaxer:

It’s called Game 2. Most likely wouldn’t happen again.

  103. HV Lax says:

    Greeley finally got their win.
every game has been close, every one except LP and Clarkstown. They finally got what they have been working for.

Down the entire game, but they held on and scored with 4 seconds left to win the game.

Greeley’s turning the corner, i can’t wait for their next few games.

  104. laxman says:

does anyone have the somers lakeland score, its been a while

  105. JJ-Lax Alum says:

JJ ~vs~ Corning East was an interesting game. JJ pulled it out with less than a minute left in OT on a tipped goal shot by Jake Wiel to win 6-5. JJ’s Forest Walter appears to be injured, was not playing . This was another JJ-2010 classic …… in that it again was a tale of two halves.

First half started with Corning East controling the ball for almost 9 minutess of the first quarter, JJ’s goalie Rob Maher was on his game and the defense looked quick and strong (slides and coverage were textbook) Corning moved the ball well. JJ offense came to live in the second quarter and score was 3-1 at the half. Corning’s defense held Daniello pretty much in check.

Second half was where it again turned into what is becoming the norm for this season, a goalie change and sloppiness sets in on clears and the offense goes to sleep. Corning ties it with under two minutes to play.

Felt lucky to escape with a win today, even though it was clear JJ was the better team.

  106. Just sayin says:

Somers won 13-11 … i see it posted here.

  107. laxman says:

wouldn’t come up, dont know why, thanks

  108. Elephant Man says:

A solid day of lacrosse for Section 1 teams. Out of section wins over quality teams and some close games in section made for an interesting day. Fox Lane over PV has to be the upset of the week. FL is 2 for 3 in OT games. Good coaching and kids that won’t give up. Young team too.

Yorktown continues to give Chaminade fits. I wouldn’t worry about the face off situation as Chaminade has a legit D1 FOGO not just a “face of guy”. Considering that Chaminade has about 10,000 boys to choose from to put 10 players on the field, the Huskers come away with a quality win. To answer a question above: How did Yorktown lose to JJ? Simple, JJ was the better team that day. The bigger questions is how did they get creamed by GC? JJ would play Town again tomorrow and would more than likely win again.

Somers over L/P. This one surprised me. I haven’t seen L/P play this year but they seemed to be ready to take their place among section one elite. Either Somers has officially “turned it around” or L/P is not quite there yet. Murphy Cup will be fun but I do not think Yorktown is overly worried. Somers resurgence will be put to the test on the 26th.

John Jay pulls out another win. Of course the margin of victory wasn’t enough, Corning East is down this year, JJ gave up a lead down the stretch, no behind the back goals…all pessimistic perspectives. How about the fact that JJ gets scoring from 5-6 different players every game, JJ is playing without UMBC bound Brandon Merlino, JJ won today without their best midfielder, JJ is winning all these close games. And they are doing this with a first year coach and 6 out of 10 starters who are juniors or freshman. Not bad, not bad at all.

Manhasset over Darien is not a surprise, what is a surprise is that Set is 10-0 when this was supposed to be in a rebuild year not a reload year. I guess someone forgot to tell the Indians. Just great lacrosse players playing a game they have played since birth. The Wooden Stick will be a close. If the game goes into OT give the edge to GC who has played in two OT games in 2010.

  111. laxnoz says:

Somers looked like the team we all know they can be over L/P 13 TO 10 watch out YTown could be an upset in the works!

  112. LAXman says:

These wins today certainly boost confidence for Section 1 as a whole. I predicted Yorktown was going to get dominated on faceoffs and blown out today (I would’ve predicted that for any section 1 team), well, at least I was right about the faceoffs. Way to step it up recently Yorktown! Yorktown always seems to play their best against teams like St. Anthony’s and Chaminade, who they’ve been beating the last couple of years, but struggle against teams like Ward Melville and Garden City. But I think this Yorktown team was an entirely different team than the one that played Garden City. I have to admit, I had my doubts about KI earlier in the season but now he seems to be looking again like one of the best attackmen in the country.

Another close win by Jay! I don’t know what to think about this one, but I think that this is a good win by them when many expected them to lose. After all, year after year, Corning East is a national power. They lost many graduates, but look at their schedule this year! Before this loss, Corning East dominated every opponent they played except for their lone 9-11 loss to defending state champ, undefeated, and #10 ranked in the nation by IL Canadaigua. I’m a Jay fan and I’m happy about this win.

Forrest Walter is very important to JJ though, why is he injured and when is he coming back?

  113. Davis says:

New Fairfield wins 6-4 over Rye.

  114. LAXman says:

Chris Daniello shows why he is one of the best attackmen in the country with 3g 2a in Syracuses home finale win over Providence. What a year for him so far.

  115. Doid23 says:

    * sigh* Time to accept the fact that Jay beat Town this year, fair and square. It was the second game for Jay as well. 4 goal leads in the first half don’t mean anything (no one knows that better than Jay), and Jay’s defense shut down Town in the second half and won the game. Period. And just like Jay layed an egg vs. Sett, Town layed and egg vs. GC. Jay’s gotten better as well this year, so I’m not going to give you that Town would win if they played again in May. Accept that Jay won the game, enjoy Town’s big win today, and move on.

Because your starting to sound like Hopkins fans (go the the laxpower Hopkins thread if you want to know what I’m talking about).

  116. ino1235 says:

When Interlicchio is “on”, he is the best senior attackman in the country (yes ahead of Gallasso)….He simply cannot be stopped and scores at will…Nobody can deal with his size and talent….Great win for Town, I guess it helps when you have your leader step up in big time games………

  117. gochercoke99 says:

As a huge section 1 fan, after this win, I must agree that Yorktown is the best team in Section 1……Interlicchio is one of the best attackmen in the country and proved that he can simply score at will….when Town plays together and Koelsh is playing well in net, they cannot be stopped…Going to be an interesting section playoff!!!

  118. Sec1 says:

The first thing, JJ and Town played J won, wish the game was later in the season. I love KI but Nicky is all around better, Cuse to your point about KI being second that is simple and I know who your talking about wrong. KI problem is he came in out of shape and still is not their yet, I don’t know why and that is a shame. Towns game yesterday the onething to point to is they lost 21 of 23 F/O, what does that mean? Cham who is a very good team had posseion almost the whole game, they should have won that game easy, what happened I’d Towns D beat them up the whole game, goalie stoned them middie shut them down and O had their way. Biggest win in Sec 1 this yr, Town is still the Face of our Sec!!!

  119. Sec1 says:

    Laxified
What’s your take on the Town vs Cham game?

    Woodstick
The two big D men you talked about were Schooled by a Freshman and a Sophmore and both 5’8 by the way and KI just Bulled them around and his Great hands and Big game play just to much for them. I would like to hear your comments now that the game has been played?

  120. laxr says:

Come on guys, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’m not willing to forget that 14-3 lost to Garden City just yet (and that score could have been worse). A combination of great play from Yorktown and poor play from Chaminade made that score. Once Chaminade finally started to move the ball on offense with about 4 minutes left in the game, they got 4 quick ones to make it close. I find it hard to believe that Yorktown (regardless of how well they played) would have hung with the Chaminade team that beat St. Anthony’s 14-8. Not trying to take anything away from a great win, but you guys need to look at the big picture instead of one game, and that picture says that Yorktown still has 3 losses compared to Jay’s 1.

  121. laxified says:

    Sec1-

What you said above is pretty accurate. I thought it was easy to see Town wanted the game much more than Chaminade. I don’t say that to take anything away from Town. They won and they deserved it but Chaminde should really be embarrassed by their lack of effort and team play. KI was good although he holds the ball too much for my liking and the Town little attack guys were shifty and smart. I thought Koelsch was excellent in goal but so many of Cham’s shots were from middies at the top of the box and he had a good look at them.It surely was not the same team I saw vs Set or St Ants and that surprised me because it was a day honoring one of their own. Bottom line was Town played like a team for the entire game and Cham did for about 4 minutes

  122. Sec1 says:

    Laxr

Town beat the Flyers up and down the field all day, 11-5 with under 4:00 and one of those last 4 goals was and own goal. Is Town at the level they normaly are no, will they win the Sec who know’s. Also J one loss they were waxed by Sett and Town was also by GC, Town’s other was To Ward and that was a good game, and J. The one thing is they are playing better, and they can beat LI schools 5-0 againts St Anthonys and Cham anybody else make that claim?

  123. Sec1 says:

    Laxified

I think they took Town alittle light, not sure why they would, being they play each other evey yr and Town holds a large lead in searies. And the fact the day honored one of their own, but they still are kid’s I think we forget about that sometimes because of the level they play at. The one player that I was most disapointed in was #3 he has tons of talent, and just did not go to cage.

  124. no_style_points says:

Congrats to Yorktown, Jay, Somers and Fox. The season is now officially “on”.

If the score was 11-9 with :55 then the game WAS that close. Either Y controlled the ball or the Cham O to bring it home.

Nice win for the Foxes after two OT losses.

Why do people automatically assume that if a team is leading at halftime they should automatically win the game? There are two halves and both count.

Nice job Mahopac. Northport is middle of the pack at best, but this was a road game and not an easy day!

Arlington good job vs Albany Academy, but honestly, I think we’re all more impressed with your weekday road W against Ossining.

Ossining you should have run North Rock off the field and you did. Nice bounce back, but do NOT lose to North Salem and you MUST beat Put Valley to maintain the props.

Nice job by Greeley; They’ve been losing heartbreakers all year and finally win a game AND it’s against a winning record. Way to go. Maybe this starts a rally.

Did KI break out because Cham failed to adjust to him or is he that good? C’mon folks, the kid can play.

JJ fans, a guaranteed win in a Yorktown rematch is just delusional.

Somers and JJ have 3 remaining out of section games, Yorktown four.

Look past L/P and what they can do at your own peril.

Put Valley has lost to a laxpower 97, 98 and 92 in the last three. They’re fine.

Fox Lane has risen by beating up on low ranked opponents, but the Put Val win is signature. They have P’ville and Byram this week and the games will get tougher. They’ll respond.

The fun season all predicted is shaping up!

  125. Doid23 says:

Nice post no style points, but where did any Jay fans say a win in a Town rematch was guaranteed? My point was claims that “it was the second game” and “we’d beat them in a rematch” don’t fly, they won the game, and a rematch would just as likely be as tight.

  126. TownLaxer says:

    Hey Joe,

Since teams have been throwing all sorts of unique coverage packages at KI, why not ask him .. who was the best he faced and why? He is a fairly bright kid and would give an honest analysis.

  127. no_style_points says:

No, wasn’t talk bout you, Doid.

Honestly I didn’t even see your post here. I must need coffee.

If you go back through the threads you will find them and it was top of head.

What would we have to do to get a rematch? Better yet, what do we have to do to get the power league back and annual home-and-home series amongst the section elite?

How about doing away with A, B, C distinction, having an ‘American League” for the elites and aspiring elites and a “National League” for the other schools, then geographically align. Two big divisions.

First round playoffs would be in division and geo-friendly and you have to win to get out of bracket.

That way elites can play up and other schools can build amongst themselves, while being environmentally friendly.

    Thoughts?

  128. Mom in Green says:

Just watched the Ytown game on the tube. Great effort by the entire Town team. Biggest team effort I have seen thus far this season. You can win the games if you play together – simple. Great job by the freshman Marriano and Keolsch, Gately showed nicely. KI was able to get open and make’em rip. Nice job on D and older brother deserved all the glor on the day. So much more fun to watch Town when the play with this type of care for the ball.

  129. lax1 says:

i agree. i see mamaroneck in the sectional finals

  130. laxified says:

    Sec1
Himler is #3. I know what you mean. With that body and release i would like to see him bull his way to the cage too. I would think it would make it easier for him to dish after he makes himself a threat to score and dishing is what he likes to do. Tries too many passes in tight for my liking. Would like to see him in an offense where he is off ball more than with it. Cham offense has run through him for 2 years and…..Kid has all the talent in the world and I hope it works out for him at Princeton.

  131. slacrosse says:

Easy on KI “scoring at will”, “can’t be stopped”, etc, etc. He’s a top player but he can’t “score at will”, Jo Jo couldn’t “score at will”, etc. etc., both having been played VERY well in numbers of games by strong D kids (like in the first J game for example).

Yeah the Chaminade win was a “signature win” for sure but the way things are going in Section 1 wouldn’t pile on TOO many plaudits or labels just yet (that goes for any top Sect 1 team).

  132. sec1 says:

    slacrosse,
Clearly you are not a huge Yorktown or KI fan from your posts in the past, which is fine because everyone can have there own opinion and cheer on their own teams/players. BUT its not ok to be such a HATER towards ytown…Give credit where credit is due…At the high school level, when Kevin Interlicchio wants to score, he can score, there is a reason why he is closing in on the ALL TIME Goal Scoring record at Yorktown which is truly probably one of the most prestigious accomplishments around the country..Do you think by him trying to score every time he touches the ball is the best way to win games? Absolutley not and he has been doing a better job and really including everyone in the offense.
Yorktown has done a very nice job thus far as they play one of the toughest schedules in the country wiht such a young team….Again, dont be jealous of other teams/players accomplishments, being a “hater” is no way of going about life.. 😉

  133. dibber55 says:

    Sec 1 – WELL PUT!

  134. LI Lax says:

    Sec 1,

If KI could score every time he wanted to score, then Yorktown would never lose a game and would be the greatest team in the world.

  135. Observer says:

sec1 – any idea why KI didn’t “want” to score vs. John Jay??? I mean he had only one goal and Yorktown lost 8-7. I’m not one to encourage delusional thinking, but I can’t wait to hear your response.

Also, slacrosse is an objective and informed poster. You should strive to be the same. Right now, I gotta tell you, you have a long way to go my friend.

  136. sec1 says:

KI has the ability to get a quality shot off or get to the doorstep on the goal whenever he wants, Im sorry for confusing that with “scoring”…. John Jay did an excellent job containing him and every athlete has a few games like that…I am just sick of Slacrosse HATING on Yorktown Lacrosse, thats all..

  137. slacrosse says:

    sec1

Really I was sincerely sorry to hear you feel I’m not or not a big Town or KI fan. I was shocked when you then said I was “jealous of other teams/players accomplishments” and being a “hater”. But thanx for your advice about how to live my life.

You’re entitled yo your opinion which I respect. But you couldn’t be further from the truth. My position on this site is clear. I’m a Rye fan first and then a very strong and loyal Section 1 fan. I absolutely dont favor ANY other Section 1 team or player (except when they play Rye) but just enjoy top lacrosse (as i did watching the great Town team last yr).

I’m extremely confident that Joe , Cuse and at least the VAST majority of people that know my posts would agree with me.

Yeah I do have opinions like everyone else that people may not agree with (I’ve also been quick to state my errors) but your criticism/characterization is totally erroneous.

I said the Town win was “signature”. Didn;t feel that I needed to repeat what other people said as to why which speaks for itself. Mentioned last week’s win over PV was particularly positive given Town was missing KI after 1 Q and other starters for parts or all of the game. KI and Jo are great players but I don’t have to agree with every characterization made.

I do tend to sometimes notice and “temper” statements that strike ME as being a bit “extreme”. EVERYONE agrees that this season is unique in that there is parity in Section 1. So my point was to recognize the Cham win but temper expectations, at least now. If Town has a good win over Somers tomorrow I’ll be the first to acknowledge the continued growth and talent of this season’s Town team.

I’m not going to comment on your last KI statement that “when KI wants to score , he can score”. I’ll leave it up to fans of teams that have defended KI to agree or disagree with that if they choose to.

Good luck to Town and Somers tomorrow.

  138. slacrosse says:

    sec1

Most importantly I repeat again that nothing i’ve ever said on this site would imply IN ANY WAY a hate to Town or any other Section 1 team.

Read your last post. Dont you see that it should evoke the same type of question “observer” asked you from your previous “score” post.

Here’s a suggestion. You’re a great and loyal Town fan and want to support the players which is great, Ki is a great player which fans know. LET HIS ACTIONS SPEAK FOR HIMSELF. HE WILL BE REWARDED WITH RESPECT BY ALL FANS (INC ME) AS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE HIS CAREER STARTED.

  139. laxforfun says:

    Sec1
Totally disagree with you 100% Slacrosse is probably one of the most sincere and unbiased posters – even when it comes to Rye. A Hater….not even close. Realistic and honest.

    Slacrosse,
Personally thought Rye was going to give Somers much more of a dog fight game. Figured it was going to be close. Is McCormmick coming back soon? Great kid and a shame he is out.

  140. the boss says:

Get a grip people!! JJ -8 Yorktown-7. Try to beat Somers Yorktown!!

  141. slacrosse says:

    laxforfun,

    Hey thanx

Was out of town and missed Rye’s last 2 games.

I did call Somers a “solid” favorite over Rye and I guess 10-4 is pretty solid win for Somers.

This season Rye has a predominantly Jr team (except for McCormack and the goalie) + some starting sophs. Young and still developing players particularly on D, has been a challenge. Nontheless felt that IF Rye could play the kind of halves they did versus Jay and PV that the game would be competitive.

McCormack didn’t play vs Somers but did in rye’s 6-4 loss to a very good New Fairfield team on Sat (hear NF’s Cortland bound goalie made some great saves).

Ya know injuries are an unfortunate part of the game and I dont want to take anything away from other teams. As I said Rye has some challenges to work with apart from whether McCormack plays or not.

Rye still has the potential to be very competitive in a given game but right now they’re a 3-5 team. Period.

  142. slacrosse says:

Up late watching the MSG tape of the Town/Cham game.

Aside from the all around strong play of Town, KI and its young players, continue to be really impressed with Town’s goalie. Aside from some good saves really like his quick and accurate outlet passes up the field. Lots of confidence.

  143. Benlaxman says:

    Sec 1
Took a late look and didn’t expect to see any more on this particular thread, but then saw this “stuff!” Sec 1, Get a grip. Don’t know what your problem is. If you are truly for Sec 1, and not just co opting the name, then you should recognize that slacrosse may be “opinionated” but he has a very positive, honest, intelligent and informative outlook on the section as anyone. So lighten up. I have never seen an ounce of hate in any of his posts… But what are we to consider your unfounded accusations?

  144. Sec1 says:

    Slacrosse

The Sec1 you are having a debate with is a poser, I am the orignal sec1 and have been watching Sec1 Lacrosse from the very begining. I just posted on todays board and asked Joe if there is anything that can be done about this, haveing more than one person with the same call name. If sec1 sounds like a jerk it’s not me lol. To the other Sec1 please change your call name, unless your me which would mean that you have been watching Lacrosse in this Sec for 45yrs have been to almost every State playoff and Championship, and have been to over 60 games already this yr and High School Coaches are asking you your opinion on teams they will be facing and their players and
College Coaches are asking you your opinion about players for their programs!!

progams. If that’s not you post under a different name!!

  145. Old Rugger says:

Thats more like the Sec 1 I’ve come to read over the years. Diss the poser. KI very good, can’t score at will. Slacrosse always positive (even when Rye is down) Does anyone know what the playoff picture will look like so far in Sect 1 as the rule have changed with the demise of the Power league. Town Goalie moving up my charts, look out Pac and Somers they may have a better goalie in the end. Towns schedule is by far the best in Sect 1 and has to be one of the best in country. Town 10 Somers 6. McLee for 3. (But maybe Somers is getting act together? ) Slacrosse did Somers commit a lot of penalties in Rye game?

  146. Syracuse says:

Jay-Town rematch would be awesome. They could play in my backyard and get style points for hitting Peter Pratt’s restaurant. Seriously, is Town back? Who the heck knows? But if they handle Somers and then take down L/P by a decent margin I think it will be hard to deny them their usual place in the sun. Then of course there’s always St. Anthony’s, Darien and Wilton to worry about.

I said it before and I’ll repeat, Yorktown will win the section and get to Long Island, where in all likelihood we’ll see more of the same that we’ve seen since 2004.

  147. slacrosse says:

    Old Rugger,

Unfortunately didn’t see the somers game (was out of town) so dont know about the penalties, but relevant question for sure.

Yeah, I’m also getting higher and higher on Town’s goalie from the Town games I’ve seen (Jay, PV and Cham). As I’ve previously mentioned, aside from the stops he’s made, really impressed at the confidence/ability he shows in no hesitation, firm clearing passes he makes right up the field which have started some scoring breaks for Town.

  148. lacrossegeek says:

Can’t believe this. Slacrosse is one of the most sincere and unbiased posters on this site. He does not hate any team. He has always complimented ytown. Everyone knows he is a rye supporter first but definitely a section one supporter all the way.

  149. Syracuse says:

    Slacrosse,

Dude, you try too hard. Take the negative comments with a grain of salt. Far more people on here appreciate what you have to say than those who don’t.

  150. laxfan says:

  152. laxfan says:

    Great, thanks a lot Syracuse!!

  153. slacrosse says:

    Cuse,

Hear you and thanx but “sect1’s” (the imposter that is) original comment was just too “globally” preposterous for me to sit by and ignore.
