One of the top juniors in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, Bronxville’s Charlie McCormick (file photo above by Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) just informed me moments ago that he has given a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship offer from Georgetown University.
A versatile and athletic midfielder with good size and skills, McCormick was a target recruit of some of the nation’s top programs.
Updated regional recruiting review and commitment rundown
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound McCormick told me he also visited Syracuse, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Penn State and Hofstra.
“When I went to visit, after meeting the people in the lacrosse program, I saw myself fitting in at Georgetown,” McCormick said. “After getting off the train, I knew that Washington was a place that I wanted to be in and a place I can see myself after college. The coaches were very encouraging and gave me all the time I wanted to make a decision.”
McCormick said that academics was equally as important in his decision as lacrosse.
“The prestigious academics at Georgetown made Georgetown my clear favorite,” he said.
Nick Daniello, who coached McCormick over the summer on the PrimeTime team, said McCormick has the ability to be an impact player at the major D-I level.
“He is an athletic player with a great stick and a great shot,” Daniello said. “He can really rip it, and is a good shooter on the run. He takes faceoffs, too.”
McCormick is also equally adept with either hand and is known for his quickness coming off dodges.
“My style of play can be characterized by quick north to south dodging
from the midfield position, and being able to score,” he said. “I don’t mind if
there is a settled or unsettled situations and I like to keep the ball moving. I make smart decisions when feeding and shooting, and like to hit a guy with a pass backdoor.”
With two more varsity seasons, McCormick sees room for further improvement.
“I am definitely going to improve my game.” he said. “Every aspect of my game can improve. Stick skills can always get better. Speed and agility are also key factors I will be focusing on in the year to come.
“I’m going to have to work on my defensive skills as well. Most of all, I will need to get into the weight room and put on a few pounds so I won’t get pushed around.”
McCormick says two players he has looked up to are his brother, Terry, and former Hopkins star midfielder Paul Rabil, who is also known for his strong dodging ability.
“Terry was the person who got me interested in lacrosse, and playing on the same team with him as a freshmen was fun,” McCormick said.

Wow – this is big news especially since this kid is not exactly a household name even in Section One. Just goes to show if you work hard and have the skills and in his case size too and get noticed over the summer the schools find you.

It will be interesting to see where Charlie’s classmate Jack Near ends up. He is also a D-I recruit.

Congrats.
Good for him, Bxville and Section 1. Also good to see kids continuing to go big time D1 lacrosse from the smaller high schools.
From Class C you have McCormick and recently Rye kids (McCormack-Cornell, Keough-Notre Dame, Santangelo-Fairfield, Gordon & Davis-Colgate), Put Valley (J. Van der ver donk -Oneonta, R. Fitzgerald-St. Johns) .
Any others over the last few yrs?
Please no knock on D2-3 which is also great in all ways. Just focusing on narrow point of Class C kids going D1 .

Carpentiri from Byram Hills is on the Syracuse roster

Not only is Stefan Carpentieri on the SU roster as a recruited walk-on, I think, given his size and athleticism, he has a shot to get some playing time down the road. He’s also living in the same apartment as former Somers star JoJo Marasco.
In addition, another Byram Hills standout, Andrew Lohrfink, has walked on to the team at Georgetown as a sophomore.

Sounds like Bxville can be a suprise contender in Class C even though everyone talks about Rye and PV.
