Wow. Some great schools for Sect 1 recruits the last two years … Hop, Cuse, UVa, UNC … Why cant any of these teams ever make the state finals let alone win a state title?

My guess is that kids from Jay, Town, Rye and ALL other Section 1 kids that participated in recruiting tournaments this summer and who caught the eye of coaches received Sept 1 preliminary letters of interest. There’s still a long way to go to turn these inquiries into hard-core recruiting interest. Performance this coming Spring and Summer will make the difference.

Throw in Cole McCormack going to Cornell and this begs the question – How did Rye hsve such a bad year and then lose to Put Valley? Coaching??? What does everyone think??

Also how does Somers with a kid going to Cuse and another to Hop and 5 D– kids lose to Nisky by 10 goals? Also coaching?

Good for him, heard the rye kids are looking into similar schools, i think barton is looking at princeton, georgetown, notre dame, loyola, brown and umbc, heard something about o’callaghan and hopkins, notre dame is also looking at mcreddie, and i know umass is looking at a few rye kids

Somers rising senior Katie Marasco is continuing a family tradition of Division I lacrosse competition very much alive.

Katie told me she has committed to La Salle to play women’s lacrosse, after also drawing interest from Villanova, Siena, Bryant and Drexel.

She was selected to play for the Hudson Valley team that competed in the U.S. Lacrosse National tournament over Memorial Day weekend.

Katie’s oldest brother, Matt, is a junior defenseman at Army. Another brother who you also may have heard of, JoJo, is a freshman at Syracuse. The fourth Marasco sibling is Chris, who is a rising freshman attackman at Somers.

It really has no impact. College coaches recruit players they think will help their programs. Once their evaluations determine that player has the potential to succeed academically and athletically and they begin to recruit the player, one of the first questions they will ask is, “What other schools are recruiting you?” So they will find that out right away any way.

But even at that point it’s not too important. Because if the college likes a player who isn’t being recruited heavily, they will be happy he’s flown under the radar and be pleased they found out about him and others didn’t.

To be honest, many people put far too much importance in the impact things like stats and press clippings — and yes, even blogs and Web sites — have in the recruiting process.

Here is a serious question for you. Is it better for a kid to announce all the schools that are interested, or to keep the info confidential until he makes a decision? What do the pros advise?

All sounds like great opportunities…I doubt Hopkins though since they already have 2 lefty attackmen studs coming in…Zach Palmer from Canada and obviously Ytowns Kevin Interlicchio.

Mike would fit in great anywhere but I see him playing in the dome!

Here’s a quick college note. It’s official, gang. The rumored time change involving Final Four weekend has been made. The times of the three games — the two semis and the finals — Memorial Day Weekend have all been pushed back, which should lead to higher TV viewership.

Sounds like Cuse, UNC and Hip have a leg up but Chris Bates could get in the mix at Princeton especially considering his JJ roots.

Good for him. It will be interesting to see how important academics factors in. Obviously Cuse is going for a third straight national title but it is below the level of Hopkins and to a lesser extent UNC academically.
