Hey gang -
Be sure to check back here each day for the latest recruiting news. As we all know, this time of year, there is plenty — and you never know when it’s going to happen.
Case in point: Rye star attackman Rob Santangelo, who e-mailed me late tonight to inform me that he has verbally committed to Fairfield University.
For newly updated commitments, be sure to scroll down to the “Comments” portion of this thread each day.
• You can get your own LaxLessons.com recruiting profile by clicking here.
Santangelo is a strong addition to second-year Stags coach Andy Copelan’s 2010 freshman recruiting class without question.
Santangelo still plans on attending Westminister for a post-grad year before enrolling at Fairfield.
“Fairfield ended up being the best fit academically, and the campus is great as well as the lacrosse, and the overall environment was awesome,” said Santangelo, who also considered Bucknell and UPenn.
Be sure to e-mail me with news/info on any commitments at joe@laxlessons.com, and scroll down to read the latest recruiting updates.

We will be updating this thread throughout the summer with the latest recruiting news.
Congrats to Shawn Honovich, midfielder for Lakeland/Panas, who will be following his brother Billy’s footsteps by attending Fairfield. Shawn played very well throughout the season and in the sectional final, attracting a great deal of interest from Fairfield as well as UMass and UPenn.

Pardon my ignorance, but when exactly did the University of Pennsylvania become “UPenn”? Is that big track meet they hold there the last weekend of April now called the UPenn Relays? Perhaps an alum can lend guidance.
If anything, they should work on the nickname, not the school name. My suggestion would be the “Fighting Quakers”. lol

Other than Galasso who are the top LI juniors? Have any others committed?

Not sure about the LI guys but other than Kevin Interlicchio, as far as juniors, there is Eric Pfiffner of Somers who is going to Colgate and Cole McCormack of Rye is now being recruiting by lots of big D-I schools and ofcourse Sean Honovich going to Fairfield.

As noted in Comment 1, an interesting aspect of Lakeland/Panas rising senior midfielder Shawn Honovich’s commitment to Fairfield is the fact that his brother Billy, a defenseman, was a team captain for the Stags this past season.
I talked to both of them about that, and here are their thoughts:
Shawn Honovich: “Having my brother Billy play there was a plus for me since I’ve been on the campus for four years and know every aspect of the campus. Also having my brother on the team made it easier for me to meet and get to know the team even before they were interested.”
Billy Honovich: “I had told Shawn that I wasn’t going to tell him to go to Fairfield or make him decide. It was going to be up to him. I helped him way the positives and negatives of schools that Shawn was potentially looking at because Shawn was looking at similar schools that I was looking at when I was
doing the recruiting process.”

Just got word that Donald Keough, the defensive standout from Rye, has verbally committed to Notre Dame.

Think I may have seen Johnson at Jake Reed. If this is the kid, a beast at middie and strong face-off guy.
July 21st, 2009 at 11:22 am
He was phenomenal in the state finals vs. Niskayuna in Canandaigu’s 10-5 win. He won 14 of 19 faceoffs and scored four goals. Excellent recruit for Andy Copeland at Fairfield.
