First off is a pretty memorable one.

Folks, it takes a lot to impress me. And this game did — and still does.

In fact, it may be the most dramatic and memorable high school games I’ve ever seen.

It happened back in June 2003 at Hofstra University.

Somers was playing in its fourth straight state title appearance, but had never before been able to win one.

That all changed this time around as the Tuskers won 11-10 in overtime.

With one second remaining in regulation, Somers forced overtime when Drew Maceranka unleashed a desperation shot with his long stick that went for his first goal of the season and one of the biggest in school history. It tied it up at 10-10.

Somers then won it on senior attackman Ryan Rabidou’s behind-the-back goal with just four seconds left in the first four-minute OT

The Tuskers pulled out the win against Manhasset even without two-time all-American Jordan Rabidou, who was sidelined with a torn quadriceps.

Quite a game. Here are some highlights from the fourth quarter and OT.

Be sure to weigh in with your thoughts and remembrances as well.

Great game. If memories serves me right Manhasset had like 7 D-1 kids. Set up 3 in 4th and loses. Another epic postseason collapse by Set lol. Fantastic finish by Somers too though.

  2. TuskerTown says:

Biggest win by far in Somers history although first win ever vs Town (in 02) was pretty big also. Great job digging this up!

  3. Still get chills watching this

  4. Syracuse says:

Let me just say the music and use of slo-mo gave me chills … Unbelievable.

I would venture to say, as far as the days of Hofstra go, that that day in 2003 was the greatest in Section 1 history — with both Somers and Yorktown beating Long Island powers in overtime.

If anyone has the Town-SWR game on video, please get it to Joe somehow.

Ryan and Jordan, you guys were the men!
