It’s a (relatively) light day on the schedule, which is one of the reasons we scheduled our college recruiting seminar for today at 7:30 p.m. at Mildred Strang Middle School in Yorktown Heights.

Army coach Joe Alberici, Fairfield coach Andy Copelan and former Yorktown/Gettysburg/Syracuse star Joe Ceglia will be our panelists. I’ll be moderating the festivities.

There will also be some news about some newly launched summer recruiting events.

Should be an interesting and informative night. Hope to see you all there.

Now, before we get to today’s games, be sure to scroll down through the posts and check our game report on yesterday’s 13-12 Lakeland/Panas win at John Jay. It was the Rebels’ first win over the Indians in nine seasons — and the regular-season game of the year so far in Section 1. We also have posted video interviews with several Rebels players.

Video interviews still to come: Lakeland/Panas coach Jim Lindsay, John Jay coach Nick Savastano and Ridgefield star Matt White.

OK, now to today’s action.

An FCIAC showdown between Ridgefield and Greenwich highlights today’s slate.

Last year, the Tigers beat the Cardinals not once, not twice but three times.

Though Ridgefield, an offensive juggernaut, has been steamrolling, Greenwich is coming off a big, confidence-boosting win over Fairfield Prep.

In Suffolk, Smithtown East is 7-2 and hopes it has what it takes to give West Islip a game. The Lions, of course, are ranked No. 1 in the LaxLessons.com. Top 25 regional rankings.

In the CHSAA, Iona Prep visits red-hot Chaminade, which is No. 2 in the LaxLessons.com Top 25 regional rankings.

In Section 1, Irvington, under first-year coach and former Somers star Drew Werney, hopes to continue its hot start. The Bulldogs play at Croton-Harmon at 4:30 p.m.

Among the 12 other games on the Section 1 slate, Edgemont visits Nanuet at 4:30 p.m.

Predictions:

Ridgefield 14, Greenwich 8

West Islip 13, Smithtown East 7

Chaminade 12, Iona Prep 6

East could make it interesting vs. West Islip. Just throwing it out there to keep an eye on.

  2. slacrosse says:

    Chaminade wins by 10 goals.

  3. Broadway Joe says:

Joe thanks for the note about Irvington. I know it’s your old HS. We’d love to see you at a game. It’s a young program but they all love the game and have learned so much from Coach Werney. The kids just love him. Keep up the great work. This site is fantastic.

    Broadway Joe –

Thanks for the comments. Yes, indeed. Lax is a new phenomenon at IHS, which is my alma mater. I remember we would all get excited the days when we got to play lacrosse in gym class. Now, Irvington is well on its way to being a strong varsity program.

Drew Werney has definitely done an outstanding in his first varsity head-coaching position. (Drew is a former Somers standout who played at Stony Brook University, of course.) I just talked to him the other day, in fact, and will definitely catch a game.

    Guys,

I just updated the body of this post with several scores from Wednesday. I am waiting on a call from some people with updates on other games. Please check back with us tonight.

    ‘CUSE

  6. syracuse says:

    Final: Ridgefield 12, Greenwich 8

  7. slacrosse says:

Saw RCDS destroy Hopkins. Dont think Hopkins too strong but still clear observing the players that RCDS’s starting O (Gary-Dartmouth, Levine-Cornell, Razook) would rank with the upper most teams in the power league.

  8. syracuse says:

Final: Chaminade 12, Iona Prep 7

  9. syracuse says:

Final: West Islip 11, Smithtown East 5

  10. yof says:

good call s lacrosse anyone else as impressed by Iona being within 5 to a top 5 national team

  11. LAX says:

Yeah it’s pretty surprising, to think they lost to Rye by that much! Impressive game for Iona.

  12. slacrosse says:

    yof,

Hey, cant be right all the time!! Seriously , like Lax I’m really surprised and very impressed by the relatively tight game IP gave to Chaminade

  13. syracuse says:

We all should give Joe serious props for his picks today. He had West Islip 13-7; they won 11-5 … He had Ridgefield 14-8; it was 12-8 … He had Chaminade over IP 12-6; it was 12-7.

    That’s impressive.

  14. syracuse says:

    Don’t get used to it.
