Most teams throughout the region have not even had a scrimmage yet.

But today, two of the powerhouse programs on Long Island will be squaring off in both teams’ season opener.

Syosset, ranked No. 6 in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll, visits No. 18 Garden City at 4:30 p.m. in a matchup featuring six of the top players in Long Island in our  players to watch feature published yesterday.

I’ll be on hand for all the action. So be sure to check back here for more updates during the game.

LIVE COVERAGE

Pregame: Hey gang. I just arrived at Syosset High School. Game-time is 4:30 p.m. Stay tuned for more updates

Update 1: It’s tied 1-1 after one quarter. Both goals were scored in the first three minutes.

Halftime: We’ve got ourselves a good one, gang. Syosset leads 3-2. The Braves snapped a 2-2 tie when Duke-bound Eddie Loftus scored his second straight goal. Garden City appeared to have tied it but it was ruled an apparent goal came after the whistle blew to end the first half.

End three: Syosset leads 5-3 after three. The Trojans pulled within 4-3 on a goal by Devin Dwyer with 2:44 remaining. Loftus then answered with his fourth goal of the game on a spectacular behind-the-back shot.

Final: Syosset 6, Garden City 3. I’ll be back with more on the game later.

    Joe,
Are you going to be covering Rockland/Westchester Girls HS Lax also ?

    Joe,

Was there the usual amount of rust by both teams? Or was it a fairly well played game? Sounds like the teams looked sharp, but, as expected, defenses were much more advanced than the offenses.

Syosset-West Islip … I can see it already in June.
