Malcolm Kahn is an attacking defender.
“I am a very aggressive LSM and like to get out on players and attack them shortly into the game,” said the junior standout at Hewlett High School (N.Y.).
That style of play should suit him well at the next level. The quick and athletic Kahn has given a verbal commitment to the University of Vermont, as first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section. Kahn is planning on a post-grad year after his final season with the Bulldogs in 2015.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound righty was removed by several other strong Division I and Division III programs.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Malcolm on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
My first thoughts into making my decision was making sure that I was attending a school with good academics. Next came the lacrosse factor, and (Vermont Head) Coach (Ryan) Curtis and (Assistant) Coach (Mike) Kruger (defensive coach) made me feel as if I was at home when I was on my visits.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Villanova, Towson, Ohio State and Tufts were all schools I visited during the process.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think some of my strengths as a player come from playing between the lines and on-ball defense.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
I was introduced to lacrosse at the age of 7 in the Hewlett PAL league. I had played because both of my older brothers playing the sport at that time.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
This summer I played for For the Love of The Game. I participated in FLG 3D, King of the Hill, MVP tournament and NYLA.
Any final thoughts?
Major influences from a lacrosse aspect have been all of my high school coaches, former players that I’ve played with, my brothers, and the FLG staff.
I would also like to thank my friends and family for being there for me through everything this game had brought.
I am very grateful to have all of these people in my life.
