With Fall Signing Week now one for the books and the Class of 2014’s signed National Letters of Intent now stored at their future college destinations, the classes of 2015 and ’16 are front and center in the spotlight.

But the Class of 2017 is catching up.

The latest verbal by a current freshman was made by midfielder Brian Townsend of Gonzaga College High School, who decided on Michigan after being coveted by many of the nation’s top major Division I programs.

Townsend becomes the first-ever freshman to verbal to the Wolverine’s new program, as reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-11, 145-pound Townsend is an athletic player who is effective at dodging and creating a slide.

“My style of play is creating fast breaks and playing upbeat,” he said.

A member of Blackwolf Lacrosse Club, he comepeted at UPLax as well as the Under Armour Shootout and Jake Reed’s Rising Freshman Camp.

Townsend’s sister, Caitlin Townsend, played for Fairfield University from 2009-2013. His brother, Pat Townsend, plays for Marquette and is a red-shirt junior.
