It’s been a busy week for college commitments for Yorktown.
The Huskers, who won their 36th Section 1 (N.Y.) title this past spring, had three rising seniors make commitments that were reported this past week at Twitter.com/Joe_Lombardi.
Those three are: defensive midfielders Kris Alvarado (LIU Post) and Matt Gonzalez (Plattsburgh State) and attackman Nick Bonitatibus (SUNY Cortland). They join already committed classmates Austin Fusco (D/LSM, Syracyse), Luke Palmadesso (M, Villanova) and Connor Vercruysse (A, Rutgers), giving Yorktown six Class of 2014 commits.
The 5-foot-7, 165-pound Alvarado is an athletic player with outstanding speed and quickness.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Kris on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
To go to a school with a good education and a place that feels like home. Also, LIU Post is usually a contender for a national championship which helped me out a lot with my decision.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Western New England. i was talking to Cortland and Plattsburgh. When I visited LIU Post, I got a feeling like I was at home and this is where i wanted to go to college.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My quick feet and speed helps me be a strong defender. I like to create fastbreaks and quick transitions from the defensive end or the wing on faceoffs.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work more on my offense to become a two way midfielder. Also i need to work on my strength in the weight room because I am a smaller player on the field.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I got introduced in eighth grade by Mr. Graham (Yorktown goaltender Austin Graham’s father). It was the best thing that has ever happened to me. When I was younger I played soccer and basketball. Now in high school, I play football.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
During the summer I played for Yorktown Ballers. A showcase I went to was the Island Uprising at Stony Brook University.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my family, friends and the Yorktown community for all of the support. Also I would Like to Thanks my coaches: Dave Marr, Sean Carney, Rob Doerr, Adam Lodewick, and Dave Graham.
Good for you Kris. Congrats kid.
