The announcement came in mid-December.
The inaugural Metropolitan Lacrosse Classic will be on Sunday, which also happens to be St. Patrick’s Day.
It’s a college lacrosse doubleheader at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens that starts with Michigan facing Colgate at noon, followed by a game between Navy and Holy Cross at 3 p.m. ESPNU will telecast the Michigan-Colgate game with ESPN3 carrying the Holy Cross-Navy contest.
In other college news, new conference alignments and a new sports television network are having a big impact on collegiate sports, including lacrosse.
Notre Dame’s move to the Atlantic Coast Conference will come sooner than expected. The university announced today it will join the ACC for all sports except football and hockey starting this fall and the 2013-14 academic year.
Notre Dame’s announcement comes on the heels of last Friday’s announcement by the so-called Catholic 7 basketball-playing schools that they are forming their own new Big East Conference.
The soon-to-launch new national sports network, to be called FOX Sports 1, will feature multiple sports, including lacrosse.
Less than a week after that announcement, Fox Sports Media Group and the ECAC Lacrosse Conference, which includes defending national men’s champion Loyola, reached terms on a multi-year coverage agreement.

Decent games but not exactly marquee matchups. I guess I’ll watch on TV and the web.
Local flavor on display
Holy Cross – Myles Gillespe (Iona Prep), Chris Smith (Fordham Prep)Chris Cousin (Somers)
Michigan – Mike D’Alessio (Eastchester)
Colgate – Erik Pfifner (Somers), Derek Katchis (Horace Greeley), Conner Brown (Fordham Prep), Jack O’Callaghan (Rye), Jake Danehy (Mamaroneck)
There are many others from Strong Island and Ct. as well. Should be a great day of LAX.
