The regular season in high school lacrosse has reached the midway point.
So far, there have been many compelling stories, interesting outcomes and big developments.
Among them, West Genesee coach Mike Messere surpassed Ward Melville/Mount Sinai legend Joe Cuozzo to become the winningest coach in high school lax history.
That happened Thursday, the same day Darien snapped a three-game “Battle of the Sound” losing streak against Manhasset.
Then, yesterday, top-ranked Garden City stayed unbeaten by defeating Duxbury (Mass.) 10-5.
That was the same score of the battle of unbeatens between New Jersey power Summit and defending Connecticut state champ Ridgefield, with Summit winning.
A week after taking Manhasset to overtime, John Jay picked up a statement win against a Long Island power by beating Masssapequa 9-8.
Those are among the stories Joe covers in the latest edition of his Sunday column on tristate lacrosse for InsideLacrosse.com.
Looking ahead to this week, one of the biggest matchups features longtime rivals Darien and Yorktown on Tuesday. Who do you think will win? Be sure to weigh in now in our latest poll.

I dont think Berardis should be considered at all. He did next to nothing in the Brewster game and has been out since that. Player should have to play a full year mabye be allowed to miss a game or two. if anything Evans runs that team but not enough for an AA nod. Alleyne on south should get the AA however cousins at somers should keep him on his toes. Larabee is good but Alleyne is much more athletic and will be the better college athlete.
Grass a lock? Not yet.
Yeah I know that Grass is a recruited kid and good but so far his Bville team has not played any top competition. His inclusion should not be based upon being recruited even by a top D! team but rather how he performs vs teams like Somers, Pac and LP. Bville finally has some tough teams on their sched–I’d expect him to stand out but let’s see what happens.
Larrabee of Byram Hills needs to be in the running. He made some excellent saves vs Rye as you’d expect from a Notre Dame recruit and he doesn’t have a lot of experienced help around him.
Hynes on Pac is a beast. Already has well over 10 pts as a LPM. Best player on the field….
Hynes may be the best LPM in the section. He’s all over the place. Evans has single handedly carried the Mahopac offense and Berardis has been a non-entity for this team. He has not recovered from his injury and it’s obvious.
Have not seen Pac yet this year. Will be good to see how that offense matches up against the JJ defense.
They should be adding some more names to the list 4 AA.
Mariano really starting to come around. Some names mentioned are good players but dont come close to the talented teams that SOMERS OR town or jj.Play Branca in goal iis another,
