If you’re looking for a player who epitomizes the term “pure scorer,” look no further than Ben Andreycak.
The senior attackman was the leading scorer for Fordham Prep last season with 57 goals and 38 assists for 95 points.
The Rams, who went 13-7 won the CHSAA championship and beat rival Iona Prep three times, could be the favorites to repeat.
For more on that, let’s get the perspectives of the Tufts-bound Andreycak.
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
Along with my teammates, I have been weight-training and speed and agility training every day after school. We practice before school starting in January until the beginning of the season. We work hard in the off-season to get ready for spring.
How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
We have a very tough schedule this year. We play teams such as St. Anthony’s, Chaminade, Holy Trinity, and Iona. We are also scheduled to play Somers, Lakeland/Panas and Suffern. We’re really looking forward to showcasing our team against tough Section 1 opponents.
What player or players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
We have a lot of young sophomores who will be asked to step up this year after graduating most of our starting lineup. Also, senior defensemen J.C. Sullivan and Jon Lazar will turn heads this spring after improving their game greatly over the past year.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Our team’s strength will be our experience from our leaders. Our veteran defense returns most of its starters, led by senior goalie Conor Gowan. The offense will be young but still has a few veteran leaders that will lead the younger guys.
How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
Our team’s goal is to win the Catholic state championship. We will have to go through Iona Prep to do that. They are a well coached team but we are confident that we can contend and beat them. We also are looking down the road at Holy Trinity, the team that ended our season in the state semifinals last year.
