Chelsea Piers is coming.

Coming to Connecticut, that is.

Just like its sister complex on Manhattan’s West Side, the soon-to-launch Stamford facility will include athletic facilities as well as programs for youths and adults and professional instructors.

One of the sports featured will be lacrosse.

And a familiar name will be running that program.

Greenwich varsity coach Scott Bulkley has been named Chelsea Piers Connecticut’s Director of Lacrosse.

A former All-American at Darien High School,  Bulkley went on to play at the University of North Carolina, where he went on to become captain. He was a longtime assistant coach at Darien before becoming Greenwich’s head coach prior to the 2010 season.

“I am thrilled to be joining such an impressive organization with a long standing reputation for creating quality sports programming,” said Bulkley.  “The facilities at Chelsea Piers CT are unmatched in the area and Chelsea Piers’ commitment to excellence in programming is perfectly aligned with my vision.  I look forward to working with athletes of all ages as they grow and mature with the program.”

The Connecticut Chelsea Piers facility, which will have a 100-yard by 55-yard indoor turf and indoor running track. will include lacrosse instruction, a club team as well as competitive and recreational league play for both youth and adult.

“With Scott’s impressive coaching and playing resume as well as his vast knowledge of youth lacrosse in this area, we think he is the perfect person to lead our extensive lacrosse program,” Connecticut Chelsea Piers Executive Director Mollie Marcoux said. “We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome him to our team.”

The 400,000-square foot Chelsea Piers Connecticut complex is set to open in June, 2012, and is located off Exit 9 on I-95. It will provide programs for 18 sports, and include twin ice ranks for ice hockey and skating, an Aquatics Center, Gymnastics Training Center, Tennis Center, Squash Center, Baseball and Softball Training Center and a Field House for lacrosse as well as soccer, football, field hockey, basketball, volleyball and track.

The facility will also include a childcare facility and preschool, food service and pro shop.
